My optician is strongly recommending Shamir progressive lenses, a brand
I have never heard of. Would appreciate info. on this line of lenses,
including opinions of the professionals who post here. Thanks.

Did you ask them why? And how much it costs compared to other PAL's they
carry.
I don't want to specifically comment on Shamir, but many manufacturers offer
sales incentive rewards for a certain volume of business. So this came
sometimes lead sales people to sell a particular brand, or sell all of one
brand rather than multiple brands. I have no idea if this is the case for
Shamir or your optician, but it is one more obstacle for the consumer when
trying to find the best PAL.

Paul,
One of the best PAL (progressive addition lens) manufactuers out there. Make
sure that your optician matches the design (Genesis or Piccolo) to your Rx and
type of use.
