I just order a new pair of glasses - Varilux Comfort progressives. My optician explained the cleaning required for anti-reflective coatings and I don't think I up up for daily cleaning - a drop of dishwashing liquid , etc. Crizal Alize is supposed to make this easier. Is this true? I can't >find any information of experience with Alize. Thanks for the help, My first PALs were Varilux Panamic in Crizal Alize. They were also my first non-glass lens spectacles. They were almost as easy to clean as my old glass lens, and did not attract dirt. I could not adapt to them, and my optician switched to Varilux Liberty. The Liberty is not available with the Alize. I'm not in love with the PAL characteristics, but they are better than the alternative, trifocals. Without Alize, I perceive (may not be true) that the lens are harder to clean and attract "dirt". This is a single sample, but based on it, I would get the Alize, and clean as necessary. Use MILD cleaning solutions approved for plastic lens, and SOFT, non-abrasive, wipes. While I had the Crizal Alize Panamics, cleaning every 2-3 days was adequate. With the Crizal Liberty, twice a day is more common, with the dust on the front surface the problem, not my eyelash oil. Also, what is your frame size, Rx, etc. As I see it, my optician allowed me to pick a slightly too short frame, and also let me lie to her and thus set the lens too high. (I used the top of my (segmented bifocals) glasses as we talked, but in "most" environments, hold my head more back.) What I observed was no peripheral focus ... not exagerating, the end characters on a license plate 1 car length in front of me were blurred. I could, if I used only the very top, almost see normally. In a car, partially turning my head to see the outside rear view mirrors, I think there was a mirror there <g> but whether there was a car ... no way! My wife and I went to a movie, sat my usual 2/3 back, and 3 people talking "side by side" on the screen at "normal" size ... I could see 2 of the 3 sharply. Frame is a Titmus EXT9, 51x20 (B=34.2mm) We mounted the Panamic's at 20mm and the Liberty's at 17mm. I'd like them 2mm LOWER, but 18 is the minimum. <g>. Rx is -3.00, -2.75/-0.75axis4, add 2.25. I love the idea of progressives, but will find someting else next time; even the Liberty gives too little distance periphreal focus. The newer oleophobic (folks in the biz call them "slick coats") top coatings are much better than previous coatings, and cost a lot more also. Most AR coatings companies can supply this type of coating. All eyeglasses should be cleaned with soap and water. Rinsing under running water is what removes the particulate matter that scratches the lenses over time. It's also the only way to completely remove cosmetics and body oils.
