Hello, I am new to the post.  I've been having problems with my vision and I
decided to go to the Dr. he told me he couldn't tell if I was nearsighted or
farsighted, and that he didn't want to put me in bifocals yet I was to
young. I'm thinking uhhh no!! So he prescribed me a weak reading glasses to
help my eyes focus, ok so now I still can't see the computer clearly, it's
not that it's out of focus maybe just smudged and the words run together I
can see if I try hard enough, but it causes my head to hurt all the time and
my eyes hurt, that's the best way to describe it.  Now I still can't see far
away or close up, humm a problem for me. I go back to the DR and tell him
this isn't working it's not just computer work that's giving me problems. I
have problems watching TV and driving. I feel like I can see ok it's just
causing eyestrain I'm sure the working 8 hours a day and college when I get
home isn't helping. I know this story is going on way to long and I'm sorry.
He says there is nothing he would change at this time. I left disappointed
and upset. I decided to get a second opinion. This time I was diagnosed with
a stigmatism in both eyes and he things I'm also farsighted. My prescription
reads something like this, now I know it's not much of a prescription and my
problem is minor to others. I can't remember the exact numbers and my
prescription is at eyemasters getting filled.

+75 -50 11
+75 -50 155

My biggest question is will this help me to see far away and close up at the
same time or am I just doomed?

What you have IS a very minor amount of farsightedness and a very
slight astigmatism.  Your glasses should help you with near work (the
+.75), and should make day-to-day distance vision a bit clearer (the
-.50) IF the prescription you were given is accurate.

It's possible (I'm not a doctor) that--because you've been using your
eyes so intensely of late--your "accommodation" (focusing mechanism)
hasn't quite 'given up' to accept your new glasses yet.  If you
haven't had your new glasses for a week or so, give it a bit of time.

If you're still suffering from the eyestrain symptoms you described,
and your vision has not improved, I'd recommend you return to your
practitioner for a "cycloplegic refraction."  A cycloplegic refraction
is where they put drops in your eyes that take away your ability to
focus.  With those focusing muscles relaxed, they can get an idea of
your "true" prescription.  This can also help break the cycle, forcing
your focusing mechanism to relax a bit and potentially facilitate
accepting your new glasses--again: IF the prescription you were given
is correct.

I'm just proposing one possible issue here--there may be others--but
what you describe /could/ be explained by this issue.

Good luck, Rachel.  Don't panic.  Your problem should have a
relatively easy solution.

Thank you Neil you have no idea how stressed over this whole issue I've
been. I've accepted that I have to wear the glasses and they are kinda cute,
but if I'm going to wear them I really want to be able to see clearly. Thank
you for responding I know my problem is so soooo minor. I agree with you I
don't think I'd be noticing this if I wasn't using them 11 to 12 hours a day
on the computer and reading glasses are not working for me.  Thank you.

WHY DID YOU ACCEPT?

In fact this shows your weak mind.

Strengthen your mind and refuse to wear the glasses.

You will see that your astigmatism comes and goes as your mind
fluctuates from a state of more or less strain.

If you learn how to keep your mind "under control", the astigmatism
will never show.

On the contrary, if you keep with the glasses, the strain they must
correct will become more and more, into the unconscious, and your mind
will become more and more restless...

Is this an intelligent thing to do?

I dont' think so.
