Now we have more interesting news from our correspondant.
This afternoon she tested her vision for the big Snellen chart indoors
and she read 3/40.
Then she practised as follows:
with a radio turned on playing soft music
she palmed for the duration of one song
then she gazed with closed eyes at a 300 watt halogen lamp at 10 to 20
cm distance from her eyes, for the duration of a song
then she palmed listening to the music for another song time
and so on...
This she did for 15 minutes.
Then she went out for a walk and was pleased to meet some friends that
complimented her for her improved appearence and the health of her
eyes!
When she came back, she continued with the practice alternating
darkness with light, when after one hour treatment listening to soft
music, a phone call arrived.
While she talked to the phone, suddenly appeared the 15 feet line fo
the Snellen chart.
She was astonished and rushed to check the distance, and it was 5 feet,
so her vision was improved to 5/15, INDOORS.
A great breakthrough.
The improved vision lasted half a minute then diappeared, but a few
minutes more of palming and strong light brought them back and now the
5/15 is quite permanent.

Dear Rishi,
To make this measurement conform
with the standard -- you might ask
her to read the chart at 20 feet.
The "near" distance of 5 feet is not
used for "distance" testing.
However, as an approximation (as
a ratio) you could say that
at 10 feet the line would be
10/30, and at 20 feet
the line would be
20/60.
But due to "distance" effects is would
more likely be 20/100 or so.
Why not have her read at the
official distance of 6 meters
or 20 feet.
20/70 is about 3.1 cm or
1 1/4 inches.
Best,
Otis

Because she is practicing the methods and is not
permanently and completely cured yet.
One of the most important things in the methods of
the natural eye is that one must practice at a distance
where the vision *improves* most. And then when that
improvement is quite permanent at that distance one
must practice at other distances.
This is fundamental.
If you put yourself at one feet from the card and
you gain a couple lines (assuming you couldn't
see them before) you are improving and using in
the right way your eyes. Continued practice will make
you improve at farther distances until you reach the
standard distance or more.
BUT, and this is a big BUT, it could be the other way
around also; one could find that the best distance is
MORE than the standard distance and find that he
improves a couple of lines (for example from the big
letter to the next) best at that distance. Then he must
continue to practice at that distance.
As you can understand, the original Bates' system
methods are waaaay different from the bullshit that
the so called teachers go on preaching and the so
called professionals go on bashing.
Intelligence and careful reading of the instructions
are needed to succeed in the cure of imperfect sight
by treatment without glasses.
