A little background:  I am near-sighted with a pretty bad case of
astigmatism.  I've been wearing corrective lenses since I was 6 years
old.  I am 32 now.  I see my eye doctor every 12-15 months.  My problem
is that for some time now (a few years at least), I've had problems
seeing at my focus point in the central part of my eye.  Well, I'll
have to give an example.  Last night, I went to the garage, it was
completely dark in the garage.  There was a glow-in-the-dark basketball
in there that was lit up (it was probably 10-15 feet in front of me).
If I look at it directly, all I see is a big blur - no definite shape,
not bright, just a huge circular haze - very fuzzy, can't tell it's a
basketball.  However, if I look off to the side of the ball (just a
couple of feet off to the side), I can tell that the ball is a ball.
This doesn't happen in daylight - just at night or in dark rooms.  It
doesn't happen all the time, but I would say most of the time.  I would
assume that it's a permanent problem.  I have another eye appt on
2/19/05.  I will ask about it then.  However, like I said,  I've had
this problem for at least a few years now.  The only thing I've found
that might be related is macular degeneration.  However, that mostly
happens with people over 50.  Since I'm only 32, I'm not positive
that's what this is.  Plus, since I go to the eye doctor every year, I
figured he would have been able to diagnose this.  Anyway, I would like
to know if others have experienced this type of eye behavior or if
anyone has a clue as to what this might be.  Basically, it occurs in
dark rooms with a faint light somewhere.  Thank you.
