Hello all,
I have very dry eyes and am wearing Focus Night and Day lenses on an
as-needed basis. Last year when they were prescribed, the lack of toric
correction was OK with me because the lenses seemed to mask it. Today I
put in a new pair (didn't wear any since Oct) and the lack of
correction for astigmatism is really noticible. I was told that the
Focus N&D lenses should be coming our in toric "any day" but that was
over a year ago.

So my question is, what is the lowest water content toric lenses
currently available? I wish I could wear RGP but there are 2 problems:
1) I get 3 and 9 o'clock dryness (no matter WHO fitted me with RGP I
still get it) and 2) I tend to nap on the train to and from work and
napping with RGP isn't fun.
Thanks for all your help

At home now I am not armed with my Tylers Quarterly (which has all the
details regarding commercially available contacts) so I might not be
entirely accurate.

However, for disposables I would consider Preference Toric from CooperVision
which is a disposable brand (disposables are preferred IMHO) having a 43%
water content.  Also there are Cibasoft Torics which are 38% water but may
only be available as annual replacement lenses (not sure).

Have you tried Proclear Toric lenses.  They are high water content but are
effective for many contact lens wearers with dry eye problems.  Water
content is not the whole story!

The Focus Night&Day are already very low water content at 24%. If you're
inclined to napping with your contacts in then I would stick with this type
of lens.

How do you know that it is the astigmatism causing your problem?... it may
be that your eyes were tired, or dry, or maybe the vision changed slightly
since they were prescribed? The uncorrected astigmatism is only one
possibility.

The other lens you could look into is Purevision Toric... this lens is just
being launched here in Australia currently... you'd need to find out whether
it's available yet in your area.... this is a 'sleep-in' lens like the Focus
Night & Day, and it's also very low water content (28%).

But if you've noticed a change in your vision between October and now, you
should get it checked out anyway.
