Hi,
Does anyone who makes lenses without AR coating? I've called about 10
different opticians and they all tell me that the AR coating comes
automatically with the lens, that there is no option to get uncoated
lenses.
My prescription is sph -3.5, cyl -0.75, ax 20 (right eye) and sph
-3.0, cyl -0.75, ax 120 (left) and i have half rimmed frames with a
nylon thread in the bottom of frames.
Due to bad habits and clumsiness, its near impossible for me to care
for AR coated lenses in the way they should be treated. I've had so
much trouble in the past with the AR coats that I'm adamant about not
having it this time around.
I've heard rumors that Rodenstock Cosmolite 1.6 index is available AR
uncoated. is this the only option?
finally, if i get high index plastic WITHOUT AR coat, how much UV
protection will be provided (if any?).
thanks,
aimee

There are certain brands/models of lenses that only come with AR coating.,
but most lenses come without AR coating. Almost all lenses have UV
protection and an anti-scratch coat. There are many options besides
Rodenstock Cosmolite 1.6 that come without AR.
If the retailer is telling you that you must have AR coating on any
brand/model of lens, then they are just saying that to get extra revenue for
themselves. But make sure you are talking about Anti-Reflective coating,
because most all lenses come with a anti-scratch coating (which you do
want).
I would try Wal-Mart Optical if you can't find a retailer who will sell a
lens with AR coat.
