Which is better for quick temporary relief of an attack of MDFD, a hot
compress or a cold compress?
Follow-up question. Is this condition also called corneal dystrophy?
Thanks for info.

Map Dot Fingerprint is one of the corneal dystrophies. I was officially
diagnosed a year ago. I never tried hot or cold compresses for an
attack--I was in too much pain to do much at all during an erosion.
Winter has always been the worst time of the year for me because the
air is so dry. I had punctal plugs put in last month and have had
enormous relief! My eyes rarely bother me anymore and I'm not even
needing drops, especially the dreaded Muro drops (the ointment didn't
sting, however). Beverly

The best ER treatment for an RCE erosion is a bandage contact lens
under the supervision of an ECP (Eye Care Professional). The lens
protects the surface while the cornea heals.
Long term management and prophylaxis includes treatment of dry eye (if
present), the nightly use of petrolatum ointments (with or without
NaCl), diamond keratectomy or PTK to remove the defective basement
membrane.
