On some of the online contact lens sites, I see B&L Purevision lenses
listed, and it specifically states "available now in the US", or something
like that.
However, in looking at the B&L web site, I see no mention of it in their
list of contact lenses. If one does a search on the site for "Purevision",
one sees a press release from 2002, that they are temporarily suspending
sales of this lens in the USA, pending the legal case.
Are they officially available now? Or are these vendors selling them
illegally?
If they are not officially available, how could eye doctors try them on
their patients, and prescribe them?

The patent that Ciba used to force B&L to take Purevision off the market is
up in April I believe. Expect lots of companies to come out with all forms
of silicon hydrogels then.
It's already possible to circumvent the patent with certain types of silicon
hydrogels-- witness Acuvue Advance.
Anyway, Purevision will be back real soon!
