Dim Vision Problems - Suggestions Requested.

I am about to undergo another round of medical consultations, and wondered
if anyone had seen these symptoms before, and could suggest anything that I
might have the doctors look for:

For the last 4 years, I have been experiencing problems with my vision
gradually dimming. The brightness levels maintain the same level for several
months or a year and then I suddenly experience extreme tiredness for a
couple of days, along with a sudden small drop in brightness levels. This is
a permanent drop in brightness levels.

Visual acuity is unaffected, and there is no other distortion, apart from
floaters, within the vision. It's as if a 100 watt lightbulb was replaced
with a dimmer lightbulb. BTW, I also experience a temporary dulling of
hearing as well.

An MRI was carried out when this started and didn't reveal any problems.

The doctors can find no evidence of retinal detachment.

Apart from the tiredness, there has been no discomfort or pain at all.

[The doctors could not find any cause, and since it was not affecting my
life at the time, took no further action. With a further small reduction
in vision, I am going to have another go at trying to find an answer.
Why is it that doctors _hate_ having to admit that they don't have an
answer ? :-)]

Does anybody have any suggestions or for any types of specialists that
I should see ? (I'm in the UK in case it matters for the latter)

Thanks for any information,

Mike.

I hate to say this, but my initial reaction is that you should be tested
for MS.

Yes, and quickly. Vision problems are often the first sign of MS and the
fatigue is indicative of an active immune response occurring. Get it checked
out quickly.

I'm deaf in one ear. Should I sit next to the speakers at a heavy metal
concert?

Oh my god!

Nobody listen to this idiot.  Solar retinitis is a well known clinical
entity that permanently destroys your fine macular vision.
