Hi All,

I'm interested in reading if anyone has had Visudyne photodynamic
treaments when they do not have  macular degeneration.  What was your
condition and what was the outcome?    I am 41, non-diabetic, and have
an "idiopathic"  subretinal neovascularization that is bleeding
(subfovial as of now).  I have loss sight in the left side of my left
eye - completely blurry.  I am scheduled to have Visudyne treatment
soon and am looking for other younger patients who have had a similar
condition. My only other choice is laser surgery and I have chosen
Visudyne as it appears to be less damaging to the retina .  Any
feedback appreciated.

TIA,
-Lyn

I am 60. I had the PDT to remove some fluid from behind the retina.
This was an off-label treatment. The treatment takes about 2 minutes
and is painless. Before the treatment they will likely do an
angiogram.

After the treatment you have to avoid sun, halogen and other strong
lights for 48 hrs.

Your vision may decrease but by the 7th day it comes back to what yo
had before the PDT. The PDT take 2 to 4 weeks to take effect. In my
case my vision inproved in the 4th week. The liquid was removed
(checked b the doctor at 4 weeks). However by the 6th week my vision
was reduced to what it was before the treatment. I had been warned
that repeated treatments may be required. I am schedule to see the
doctor next week 8 weeks after the 1st treatment.

Good luck.

Carlos

Thanks, Carols.  I already had the angiogram and it was worse than we
expected, but it still appears to be operable.  I will be having PDT
Tuesday.  Will let you know how it goes.

I was told I may need a total of 2-3 surgeries before the blood
vessels are sealed completely.  And even then, there is no guarantee,
of course. ;)

Please keep me posted as to how your treatments go.  Most of the data
I have read are WRT ARMD, and since that isn't what I have, I am a bit
wary of the treatment plan.  I have two medical opinions so far, and
one report due this week, so am going ahead with the PDT.

Thanks for your input - it's nice to know I'm not alone.

What is WRT ARMD?

"...with regard to age-related macular degeneration."

Sorry for the acronyms.  I was probably tired. :)
