I had been using Surevue's without a problem for years. The old box says
they're BC 8.8; DIA 14; -3.25; 2006/10.. maybe that's the exp. I don't have
the info for the Acuvue's handy.
Anyway, I guess they discontinued Surevue's, so my optometrist started
giving me Acuvue 2's.
Right away I noticed the Acuvue's were much more bowl shaped. The Surevue's
were much more flat, like a plate. It seems like the bowl's edge rubs
against the white and causes irritation and now scaring which make it worse.
They are more comfortable than the Surevue's... AT FIRST. Very comfy for
the first few hours. But after 6-8 hours the insides of the scleras become
red.
I told the ladies at the optometrist they were irritating me and they
insisted that the Surevue's would be irritating but the Acuvue2's aren't.
They were just raving about how comfy the Acuvue's are. Finally convinced
them to switch me to Acuvue 1, which is a little better, but still causes
irritation.
Is there a flat contact lenses out there that won't irritate so much?

Likely the Accuvue 2 is not fitting properly. Return to your fitter for
assessment; the fitting fee you paid should include a post fit check and
reorder of lenses.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but Surevue is *not*
discontinued. Six-packs are still available everywhere. What is not
available, however, are the diagnostic lenses that practitioners rely
on to make sure the lenses fit. Therefore, when a practitioner runs
out of diagnostics, they usually don't like to continue
fitting/dispensing such a lens. Why does such a thing happen?
Because manufacturers come up with bigger and brighter ideas
(hmm....not always), like the Acuvue2 or the Acuvue Advance. They of
course want to put their dollars toward marketing and manufacturing
the new stuff. The old stuff gets dropped by the wayside even if it
is a very good product.

Mark,
It is possible that you are like me, one in a million that can FEEL the
123 mark etched on the contact itself. Surevue was one of the last
Vistakon lenses to NOT have an inversion mark on the lens.
I used to wear the Acuvue "1" way back when there was no inversion mark.
Acuvue added the AV mark on that beautiful lens and toasted my ability
to tolerate the lens in my eye any longer.
So, it is possible, IMHO, that you might be feeling the 123 inversion
mark on the Acuvue 2 lens or the AV branding mark on the Acuvue "1" lens
that never existed on the Surevue lens.
I wish you much success in finding another comfortable lens.
BTW, I now wear an Acuvue 1 day lens. Yes it has the 123 inversion mark
but because the lens is very thin (and I wear -9.0 lenses) I tend to not
feel the mark. Have you considered the 1-day Acuvue?
Regards,
-Jim
