Is it bad to force stiff joints into a position, even if after being forced
you then find it slightly easier to get into said position naturally?

I know it sound strange but at the mo am having problems with my toes. I
can't straighten them naturally, they seem to curl up. This is giving me
cramp and making it painful and awkward to walk. If my hubby forces the toes
down then fully up I seem to be able to 'wiggle' them myself, slowly at
first but then gradually they feel much more normal.

So should I stop him and put up with it or am I ok as long as it doesn't
hurt afterwards?

Going only by my own experiences at physio, sometimes it's necessary
to do this to get the joint to loosen up initially - the first time
being known as the "bloody hell that hurts!" experience. It's what I
have to do every morning in order to get out of bed. If you're not
experiencing any extra pain as a result of this, I would guess it's
OK, but I would advise asking your GP or a qualified physio first.

Ooo an answer, ta. I was beginning to think everyone had deserted this
place.

Thanks, when I eventually get to see my new GP I may well ask. We moved in
December and am just \ble to make an appointment with the nurse for a
pre-acceptance health check! I'm buggered if they don't want any patients
with long term conditions on their books. :-(

Sorry Coats, I didn't answer cos I have OA.
When I have those difficult to get out of bed mornings, I sometimes get back
into bed and do a few exercises under the duvet.
