One thing that I find interesting, and presume that it reflects on most
Brits, is the unwillingness to criticise government/NHS actions of this
sort. Take a look at the enthusiasm for this NG. Very few people are
participating now, though there are millions out there with various
forms of arthritis.
OK. Bypassing consultants and sending patients to GPs (only) for a
check up after surgery is asking for trouble. IF GPs were as good as
consultants - in only one field - they would be consultants. You only
need a pass degree in medicine to be a GP (plus some extra training),
but there are higher and more specific standards required for
appointment to a consultancy in the U.K.- even the exams are set by a
medical establishment with a tendency to navel gaze. Anyway, I think
most patients only get 1 routine post surgical check up to see if they
are doing well enough. If they are, then no more unless trouble.
Personally, when it comes to RA or osteonecrosis, I wouldn't trust my
GP as far as I could see him !
