I am 60 and have OA in my hips...usuall story of steady getting worse over
last few years..
I used to walk a lot ...to and from work every day etc...as the OA has
become worse I have cut the walking and other wear-on-the-legs activity down
so in the last year or so I walk only short distances...much, much less than
before ...
BUT! the OA continues to worsen at the same rate as earlyer years....How
come ?
Its a 'Wear and Tear' thing isn't it ?...so why when the wear and tear I
place on my legs is much reduced does not the condition much reduce in its
progress ???
I have seen the same pattern in many other people..
Why when we 'ease-up' the OA doesn't.

simply _because_ it's a wear-and-tear thing.

if you've got a tear in an item of clothing, however carefully you
behave, the tear gets worse (hence "a stitch in time saves nine").

in just the same way, once the damage is done inside your joints, the
most careful behaviour isn't enough to save them.

probably, in fact, there's more to it (something in your immune system
getting worred about damaged tissue?) than there is in the case of the
torn jacket, but even so i believe my explanation has some validity.

I except that it will not repair...but the OA condition continues to worsen
as fast with little heavy use of the hips as when there was a lot.

Have you been examined for osteoporosis ?
Might be an idea to get a bone density test.
