had my first whole day out on Sunday since the installation of all my granny
flat equipment, it was our 34th aniversary I decided I fancied a day down in
the Rye area since seeing it on the box a couple of weeks ago.  Well we had
a nice day weather was kind BUT, i have now found I am obsessed by public
loos in little chef or such places fine use the disabled one it has rails
and lots of room, but what happens elsewhere???? panic nothing to hold onto
oh my god big risk of peeing oneself cos I do not want to go in anymore help
does anyone know how to obtain a key???
Also when in a wheelchair is everybody always so nice to you such
pleasantries i have not heard in years, then there is the next BUT do you
get used to everything being on a different level.
Jayne do not remember if i thanked you when you suggested I contact social
services about this equipment but after doing so all was in place within 2
weeks wow.

Hope everyone is doing ok

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the loos Hev, but I am so pleased
that you have had success with your equipment!  That is really wonderful for
you!

Could you perhaps ask social services about who to contact for a key for the
disabled loos?  They may not give them out, but I bet they know how you can
get one.

Try here for a Radar key:

http://www.radar.org.uk/RANE/Templates/Article1.asp?lHeaderID=177

This will get you into most public disabled loos in the UK.
Incidentally, some tourist information offices have them too, at the
same cost, something I discovered whilst in Wales.

You get used to it pretty soon, and you have the advantage of never
being short of a seat when others have to stand - great in queues ;-)
And don't be afraid to holler for assistance when you can't reach
something, ordinary folks in shops are every bit as helpful (sometimes
more so) as shop assistants.

Personally, I've come to regard my chair as my own, safe environment;
like a kind of limb extension almost. One word of advice, if you
haven't already got one, and you're spending any time in it, invest in
a decent cushion, preferably with a cotton cover. Makes a big
difference in hot weather.

I hope you enjoy the extended range that the chair will allow you,
just remember, no passengers ;-)

thanks wondered about the cushion, I only have the one it came with sort of
plasticky and it did get a bit uncomfortable after a while.

I am now looking forward to some good weather to get out and about a bit.

Comes as a bit of a shock when suddenly you cannot even potter round the
garden or pop to the local shop.  People keep saying you'll be a new woman
when you get your hips done but then there's the knees and all the other
places that hurt like hell is'nt there.  Just having a bit of a downer today
gets you like that somedays do you find? When you have a couple of good ones
then you get up and wow **** can't move, today my hips feel as if they are
bending round trying to meet each other have not done a thing indoors but i
do not worry about that like I used to. oh well ta for listening am off to
hospital tomorrow for med review lets hope thee is a new miracle drug haha
bye Hev x
