Jan Brown - 24 Mar 2005 09:09 GMT > Hi, > > I just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Sarah , I'm 32 and I've had RA > for 18 months. Good Morning Sarah. Welcome to UPSA. Where do you live? I'm Janet, 59, living in Farnham, Surrey. I have lots of bionic bits, but I hear that chocolate will cure my OA, so I just have to keep eating it....... Janet
Sarah Swindell - 24 Mar 2005 20:20 GMT Hi Jan,
I live in Derby. I've only had RA for 18 months - but it's long enough. I'm pleased I've found this board so I can chat and share tips with fellow suferers. I can be quite a lonely world as people just think that Arthritis is something old people get and they just don't and can't understand the pain we experience.
I'm married (May 2004) and we're trying for a family which means no drugs and the pain is worse that I ever imagined - but It'll be worth it. I get a bit scared sometimes when I think about having RA and a baby but my husband is great and helps me with a million and one household chores and never complains.

If you haven't been to a Rheumatologist, Sarah, you should get your GP to refer you. Also, read the postings on alt.support.arthritis - that's mainly US based, but they have lots of answers on there. I also take Glucosamine Sulphate and Cod Liver Oil. If you decide to try those, they're cheaper on the Internet, but check the strength of the tablets before you buy.
I'm sure others with RA will post here soon Keep posting Janet
Sarah Swindell - 24 Mar 2005 22:06 GMT I am under a rheumatologist - he just keeps teling me to take the celecoxib and come back in 6 months. I'm not too happy with them actually and I'm considering going private - got to save up first though. We'll have to see how I get on.

I'm Andy, I'm 44 and have had RA [seroneg] since 1998. When is your next RD [rheumatologist] appointment? The reason I ask is you pointed out your nsaid is a cox 2 nsaid celebrex. Is there a reason for this? ie have you been prescribed a cox 1&2 nsaid and it hasn't worked or did you just get put on celebrex 18 months ago? Without wishing to put the frightners on you, you must have seen the press coverage about cox 2 recently? In short vioxx, celebrex and even the cox 1&2 naproxen where in the spotlight over possible cardio [heart attack] side effects. Quite a lot of people have been back to their RD via GP referal and been changed to other nsaids [mobic being a popular one]. Anyway, I'm not a RD or medical professional of any kind, so please don't take this as me giving medical advice, but it may be worth running by your GP to get it checked out.
On the pregnancy side of things, it has been commonly reported that *some* ladies with child get a kind of RA remission for the period of the pregnancy, so that might be something to look forward to.
I'm sure some of the ladies of the group with RA will post soon.
Take care
-- Andy
Sarah Swindell - 25 Mar 2005 22:06 GMT I went to see mt Rheumatologist on wednesday - to be honest I thought it was just viox. I was on that and they took me off it and gave me Celecoxib. Trip to the GP first thing on tuesday I think!!
Thanks!!

They did with lots of folk at first, then the switched on ones switched them again to mobic or something else! I'm not having a go at medical professionals, they are busy folk and I can see how they can miss stuff. I had to inform my RD about Naproxen, he emailed me back and thanked me. If you have adobe acrobat and a printer, go here, second pdf down, print it off and take it with you, it'll sound better than, "I heard from this fella on the interweb" http://medicines.mhra.gov.uk/ourwork/monitorsafequalmed/safetymessages/urgent.ht m#2005
Is your RA sero pos or sero neg? Is your RD not considering a dmard, or is he leaving that 'till after family?
Good luck anyway

diclidophora@yahoo.co.uk - 26 Mar 2005 19:27 GMT Well I wish you all luck with the chocs. I love them too, but regrettably my determined attempts to cure the RA over 25 years with this most pleasant therapy has come to nought.
Sarah, I am Pete, rather aged, and appear here occasionally. I wish you luck with your family and hope that you get the remission which sometimes comes with pregancy. If you do I hope it lasts forever.

Hi Sarah and welcome.
I'm normally around a bit more often, but am resting up at the minute after a knee replacement.
I'm 43, married and have had RA for 6 years.

Jane Bestwick said she was 30 ..........ish and for some reason I thought she was actually older [ my mistake - oops]. They say you should never ask a ladies age!!
Anyway here's a post from 5 years ago which may give away Jane Bestwick real age on her own account:

Sarah Swindell - 28 Mar 2005 18:06 GMT Hi Jane,
I often used to feel so alone - almost as if I were the only person experiencing problems - particularly in my early 30's. It's so nice to be in contact with people who are having similar experiences especially as I feel a bit scared sometimes at the prospect of being a mother and I just pray that I'll be able to manage this disease so I can do as much as possible for my children (I struggle to get my self up the stairs without having to carry a baby too). Anyway, here's hoping for successful remission if and when I get pregnant!!
You'll all have to share your top tips with me!!
