How did the appointment go on Wednesday?

Hi Andy. The appointment went well on Wednesday, the x-rays looked fine,
and the Registrar was happy with me starting to drive again, so I handed
in all my OT aids. I thought that was a successful appointment, even
though I didn't see the surgeon.

But, the hip dislocated again yesterday lunchtime,, and it took me over
5 mins to get it back in the socket again. It was really frightening and
quite painful. Now I'm scared to even sneeze! So I have various options
to consider, starting with a chat to my phsiotherapist this afternoon,
and then phoning the surgeon next week when he's back from his hols. I
suspect this will mean another operation. Yesterday was so awful that
right now I could even consider a private op, the way I feel at the
moment.

I had a tooth out earlier this morning and the numbness is just wearing
off.........!

Things can only get better:)

Great, at least you can drive again.

Well if that's an option, it will mean you may not have to wait as
long, you should be able to pick your surgeon and ask all the
questions that concern you.

Did you tell the Dentist your hips been out more often than your Teeth
lately!

I don't know what you think Jan?, but my opinion is something can't be
right the amount of dislocations you've had in such a short period
post op.

Have a restful weekend and good luck with the surgeon next week.

I've stopped, Andy, cos I don't have an automatic car. Besides, I'm
saving quite a lot of money staying home. I went into Aldergrot the
other day and three shops had closed down, so someone is missing me.

Damn, why didn't I think of that?!

I agree that all these dislocations can't be right, although I've heard
of lots of other people who've had the same problem. Gwen Love for one,
who has written to me.
I've written to the surgeon as I don't want to sit on the phone for
hours next week.

I can still drive a manual, but changed to automatic following my leg
incident and continue to drive auto.

They have opened up a new shopping mall in Basra thought!

Oh bummer Janet - you are having no good luck lately are you?  I'm sorry to
hear it has happened again.  That must be such a worry.

You take care of yourself.

That's the spirit. Have just had one of those years myself
when everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and then
some, but I feel for you with this problem. Scares with
willies out of me to know that one day I will probably be in
the same position, but you're getting there and that's a
real encouragement. But goodness me - driving! What wouldn't
I give to be back on the road? It must really be a boost for
you. My left leg being as it is, I'm supporting several taxi
drivers and their families these days ;-)

I hope things get very much better very much faster for you.
2004 is going down as my personal annus mirabilis (that's
latin for a right pain in the bum :) and I guess you'll not
be looking back on it with too many fond memories either.
But we will get through.

Hey, you know, I was walking to my local newsagent yesterday
when a gorgeous young woman smiled at me. That's all. But I
was feeling so bad, and am so used to people trying not to
notice my limp, AND she was *so* cute, you can't imagine how
good that smile made me feel. Later fell over in a shop
(dropped my wallet, went to get it, and wheee... well,
there's a first time for everything). But I'm hanging on to
that smile... So here's one from me for you to hang on to...

:-)))))))))))))))))))

Jim (not so cute, but just as smiley)

Are you not able to drive at all, Jim? I hope all these taxis aren't a
permanent arrangement.
I only drove for three miles last week, and even that was two separate
journeys. Now I'm not going anywhere, especially as I have to use the
clutch.
I've decided not to phone my surgeon after all. But he will return from
holiday on Monday to find a letter from me at the hospital, and his home
address. I want this sorted out and I don't want to wait for ages to
leave messages. I'll even see him at a private appointment if necessary.

I'd like to say that young woman was me, but it weren't. They say that
smiling is contagious, don't they? I hope you're not too sore from your
fall, and I'm sure we'll both coming bouncing back next year (we'd
better!!!).

Which reminds me - just how long is it since I had a
Cadbury's fruit and nutcase? Do they still make it? Used to
like that ...

As a matter of fact, mate, it isn't. I think the phrase you're looking for is
"annus horribilis" (horrible year) rather than "annus mirabilis" which
actually means "wonderful year".

Always knew those years of studying Latin would come in for some use.

Did you see that doris on millionaire last night who was a HR manager
with a classics degree and didn't know what "pp" stood for! just on
the basic that she worked in HR I would have thought she may have had
a clue....

I think a right pain in the bum would be an "anus horribilis"?
