Thanks Jayne for the help,i been on co-codamol for years until i had a flare
up last week and i was put on codeine 15mg 3 times aday. The pain from the
arthritis and my osteo-arthritis has eased but my GP will not put me on
them,i need to see my Consultant to see what she says next week.I have
bought Solpadine to see if that will help as it has codeine in them,as i
only had seven day supply from the hospital. With all the medication i take
constipation is a minus side effect to cope with, lol.

The co-codamol you were taking - was that over the counter stuff? If it
was, there is 7.5 mg of codeine per tablet, so 2 tablets equals 15mg anyway!
I don't know why your gp won't let you have the neat codeine.
The codeine I am prescribed is the 30mg tablets, and the maximum I can take
is 2 30mg tablets up to 4 times per day (total not to exceed 240mg per 24
hours). I don't exceed 6 tablets though (180mg) because I take a 60mg
dihydrocodeine at bedtime (its controlled release and I sleep better with
that).
Solpadeine has codeine in it (I think 7.5mg per tablet), but to be honest,
don't pay for the brand name Yas, buy the ordinary paracetamol and codeine
tablets at the chemist, they are loads cheaper.
In the meantime, get your consultant to prescribe you some proper pain
control when you see her next week. It was my GP who originally gave me the
codeine, but my consultant is perfectly happy with it, and added the
Tramadol for when it is needed as well.
Good luck.

I should have added, that anyone not accustomed to codeine should be careful
when driving, as it can make you very tired at first.

Jayne my gp would not prescribe it due to other medication i am on like
valium and anti-psychotic medication which makes me sleepy. But solpadeine
max contains 12.8mg of codeine per tablet and i was on 15mg 3 times aday so
hopefully my rheumatologist will change it next week.

Hi again Yas, when I was first prescribed Codeine many years ago I was told
by my gp that the next drug up from this would be morphine.
