Jennifer Bell - 15 Jul 2004 13:32 GMT Has anyone else found that their T is usually much louder upon waking then settles down after an hour or so?
Jennifer Bell - 15 Jul 2004 13:33 GMT sorry abput the subject, I must have pasted something my kids had copied from neopets lol

Mick Sterbs - 15 Jul 2004 17:01 GMT > Has anyone else found that their T is usually much louder upon waking then > settles down after an hour or so? Very much so. In fact it's during that crucial first hour that it either disappears for the day, or is there to stay for the day. Also, regardless of whether it's a tinnitus day or not, if I doze off in front of the TV, it's usually there upon waking up. I'm convinced it's sleep related, but in what respect I have no idea.
But I must say I haven't tried Quigquig Plushie tablets yet. I'll make a note!!

I can normally tell as well whether it will last ALL day being LOUD or justl a bit quieter than normal. I just enjoy the days when it isn't that loud (which these days are few and far between).:-(
Has anyone else notice that if you open your mouth really wide the noise is masked slightly. Don't think I can keep my mouth open wide all day though.:-)

Since habituation mine, I don't hear it all except when I listen for it. I just started listening for it now and as I did, it grew louder and louder, especially on the left side. Well, back to cleaning up the damage from a recent storm. As soon as I involve myself with that the noise will go away.

Are you STILL cleaning up from your recent storm? Must have been *really* bad.

I felt really sorry for myself until I saw what happened to some of my neighbors, then I was really thankful. :-)
WGRG3@webtv.net - 16 Jul 2004 23:55 GMT Maybe it is all TMJ related? My T is worse in the morning, and a lot of mornings my jaw is sore! So I must be grindding my teeth during the night. I find when I open my jaw wide, my T is much louder! My Dentist wants me to get a night guard for my teeth, but I have not done so yet. Maybe because he wants $200 for it! :-(

Someone here suggested mouthguards athletes use.
Look him in the eye and tell him you want him to come down in the price, but do it. When I was a young man I had a girlfriend who suffered migraines, but when her dentist ground down the tiniest piece of one tooth, restoring her bite to normal, they disappeared.
No personal experience, just apochryphal witness.
Jennifer Bell - 17 Jul 2004 02:11 GMT my dentist wants me to have one. but do they work?

Your dentist thinks so. I would trust his professional opinion on something like this. Dentists have more "learning" about the head and neck than medical doctors do, I have read. They are real experts on the jaw, the muscles and tendons of the head. For the simple reason of saving the wear and tear on your teeth from grinding in your sleep, I would advise accepting his opinion. Again, look the guy in the eye and tell him you want a better price. Bargain for everything.
Heck, they are even straightening teeth with invisible, small appliances like these. They cost so much because to work properly they must be custom fit. We pay for services. You want a custom mouthpiece, you pay for it. But, bargain, bargain, bargain.
Best wishes,

My Dentist > wants me to get a night guard for my teeth, but I have not done so yet. > Maybe because he wants $200 for it! :-( I was a dental/surgical assistant for 20 years. During that time I saw hundreds of cases of bruxism. The cost of a night guard or bite splint varies by region. The $200 your dentist is charging is not an outrageous amount when you consider everything that goes into the fabrication of a correctly constructed appliance. I refer you to this site for you to see what is involved. http://www.austindental.com/more/bruxism.shtml First, read about bruxing, then, at the bottom of the page, you will see a section on NightGuards. Click on 'clicking here' and you will see all the steps that must be taken to construct a custom fitted one for you. They differ from the rubber mouthpieces used by football players in that they are articulated to *your bite* and are not *just for protection* from impact injury. This may be an option for you to alleviate your TMJ pain, but, it is no guarantee that it will stop your tinnitus. FWIW ~Patty~

FWIW ~Patty~ --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for the Information! I know that $200 is a good price but my Insurance will not cover it! I did have a mouth guard a few years ago, but I stoped using it after a few months, because it reeked, and I just could not stand putting it in my mouth any longer. Denture Tablets did not help either! I saw a pretty interesting mouth guard in a magazine that sells for $69, I wonder if that would work? It only worked on the back teeth, and not the entire top or bottom. It did seem to keep all of the teeth apart about a 1/4 inch!

Some researchers have theories, but they are just that.
I'm stumped on the "quigquip plushie T". Probably unique to New Jersey :-)
