Hi folks,
As you can see, I posted this to the group many yrs ago. I just
thought of this the other day whilst discussing the "Sister Kenny
Method" of polio treatment with a fellow who had been lucky enough to
have been treated in her method, and saved from a lifetime of being
crippled. I told him I had stumbled on a practical (non-medical) way
to address what had been, for me, chronic tinnitus, and thought I
might post this again for whomever.

Hi All,
This may be my only posting to this newsgroup, and well, i just
thought
I'd put my story.
My ears started ringing as a result of an ear infection. The infection
went away, and the ears were still ringing.
Now I sympathize with the insanity plea, because for myself, being of
sound mind and composure, at the 90 day mark I was losing it. I went
to
the ear doc, and he measured the decibles, and I forget what the
numbers
were at this point (6 yrs ago), but it was loud.
Now, probably like others, I begin to investigate this Tinnitus, and
searched the web and found loads of medical documents, and also the
best
clinics in the US with waiting lists for years, and NONE of them had a
cure.
Everything tried by medical science to this point, failed as a cure. I
also read to what extreme procedures were taken, and guess what ? the
ringing was still there. And I read about the many therapies being
tried. BUt when I read that the auditory nerve could be surgically
severed, and the ringing was still being perceived, this was my first
clue.
Then I began to study all of the claims of what "effected" the
severity
of the individual's symptoms of Tinnitus, and Low and Behold, almost
every condition effecting the symptom (making the ringing louder or
softer) was pressure related.
Like this:
diving
airplane ride
elevation
anxiety
sound pressure
blood pressure
and I'm sure there were more, and I found them all. But hopefully you
get the gist of this so far.
Then I began to meditate on what i know about the ear... it is not a
sealed system. The components all rest together forming a seal, but
nothing of any permanence.
Then I began to look at all the claims of what caused the peoples
Tinnitus in the first place. For me, it was infection. Some said loud
music or other sound, or a sudden sound like a gun going off near the
head, some traumatic head injury.
Now it occured to me, what if something breached the delicate seal of
the ear structure? What if, for instance, the sound pressure from a
gun
going off close to the ear creates a shock wave and this wave moves
energy/matter beyond the eardrum to the inside of the brain cavity. I
mean why do some experience rimging is one side, not the other. Why,
if
the auditory nerve is severed is the ringing present?
I began to suspect that something inside the skull cavity, and
registering in the auditory sensing apparatus, is out of balance. I
had
an infection. Now it is quite possible the infection grew in the inner
ear and beyond the eardrum and in the head space. When something
grows,
it increases in volume, which in turn creates pressure.
In any case, this is what I decided to do. I would try to balance the
pressure. Now. Of course this was an experiment, and I was only hoping
for something to be shown, not expecting it would be shown.
So, just like you do when you are in an airplane, you hold the nose
and
close the throat and create pressure to pop the ears, right? Well,
just
exactly like that, I endeavored to try.
Now, I created FAR MORE PRESSURE than one ever needs to to "pop" the
ears. I just regulated the pressure, adding it a bit at a time by
pumping it up with the throat muscles. And I added more, and more (and
of course you have got to hold the breath doing this) but finally, and
I'm sure I was "BeetRed" and with veins popping, all of a sudden the
ringing just stopped. Completely stopped. Not a gradation, just
completely silent.
I wanted to hold my breath for an eternity now, cos like I said, at
this
point with some months of ringing loudly, I was borderline going nuts.
Anyway, once the ringing shut down for the moment, I still added a bit
more pressure, and well, I observed, by way of listening closely to
the
sounds in my head, I heard something moving from one hemisphere,
across
the top of my skull, toward the other hemisphere.
It sounded like gurgling, or little bubbles or tiny creaking of
fluids,
anyway, I couldn't hold my breath any longer and I had to breathe. So
I
did. And as I observed the symptoms of my own ringing in the head, I
could tell that by way of this exercise, it seemed diminished.
I was thrilled. First cos the ringing had actually totally stopped for
that blessed moment, which gave me hope. Second, tho I was skeptical
and
imagined it could be possible the now-diminished ringing could return
to
it's previous decible range, I observed the rest of the day, and it
did
not.
At this point I resolved to perform this exercise as often as a few
times a day (not wanting to like stroke myself out or God knows what)
and though my memory is a bit hazy on the deatials now, I think I was
cured within days. Maybe a week.
Now, that's it. I told you what I did and how I came to my own
reasoning
about it.
I am not saying it will work for you, but I am saying it did for me,
and
no one has a cure and treating the symptoms doesn't work.
I read in this news group about someone having success with Magnesium,
and I don't discount any remedy anyone can find. But this I tell you.
When I began researching with my own head ringing, I could not believe
the number of people suffering from this condition and with no cure on
the horizon. When I saw people were willing to sign up for a clinic
and
wait for three years to get treatment, with no promised cure, then I
knew I must go beyond conventional wisdom and nip it in the bud for
myself. And I did, and it worked.
So that's it. ANd if you want, you can email me cos I probably won't
be
back here. Good luck to anyone who reads this, whether its the cure,
or
just learning to get by with the ringing... I could'nt imagine living
with it.
Best, piph

so bad I cant concentrate on the instructions.
Thank you so much for spreading the word, if it works for me I will surely
do the same !!

This may have worked for you and if it did, I am happy for you. It sounds as
if you had more of a Eustation Tube Dysfunction than classic tinnitus. I
refer you to this site:
http://www.slcent.com/eustachian.htm
I could hold my breath until I am blue in the face trying to *blow the noise
out of my head* but it isn't going to happen. All it does is create a
headache and dayum near causes me to pass out. Not a good idea.
Here's a trick for you, although I don't recommend it! I can remember some
kids in high school doing this and thought it was funny...a way to get out
of class. Geez, the things people try!
***Warning*** This WILL cause fainting.
Stoop down and balance yourself on your toes, knees bent, elbows resting on
your thighs and buttocks resting on the back of your heels. Stick your
thumb in your mouth, hold your breath, close your eyes and blow as hard as
you can for as long as you can hold your breath. When you can no longer hold
your breath, stand up quickly and exhale.....BAM! YOU WILL HIT THE FLOOR.
I've seen it done. Some thought it was a neat trick. I think it is
dangerous and stooopid..I just put it here to show you that some people will
try *anything*. I wonder how many of those that tried it caused some kind
of permanent damage? Any ideas on this Murray?
