I've had "static-like" hissing coming from my right ear. The sound started
about 5 days ago, I noticed it when I awoke in the morning. It has never
happened before
After a thorough examinationa and a subsequent hearing test (of which
results concluded normal hearing), the doctor concluded my right ear is
congested and gave me some nasal spray to use for a few weeks.
I trust the doctor, however I really do not FEEL congested. I am in good
health, 26 years old.
Anyone ever heard of congestion induced tinnitus?
Thanks. Larry.

I would be persistent about this if this doesn't clear up after a few
weeks of using the nasal spray.
It is possible that you can not feel congested but have "negative
pressure" in your ears because of your sinuses. It happens to me all
the time due to seasonal allergies. It is not the source of my
tinnitus, however.

I used to get occasional crackly, staticky tinnitus due to eustachian tube
blockage.
It didn't feel like congestion, either.
Here's hoping that's all you've got. I used pseudoephedrine to clear it out.
