I don't know what brings on the peak tinnitus episodes, but sometimes I think
it is anxiety, but it can be very loud even when I don't have anything to be
anxious about.  Sometimes, loud music at the movies or concerts can leave me in
a state of loud tinnitus, sometimes not.  When a rainstorm is on it's way, I
get loud tinnitus.  There are days that tinnitus is unbearable and there are
days when I don't have much trouble with it.

The variable nature of tinnitus is common and well-known. Like you, for
example, weather changes drastically change the loudness of my tinnitus (in
my case, rainstorms usually result in lower tinnitus). And, regardess of the
loudness there ARE days when it simply doesn't bother me.

Sometimes, my tinnitus may virtually disappear for a day. And so it goes...

Hang tough.

I have days that are silent, but they are few and far between.
Changes in air pressure seems to aggravate it a little but mostly it
is tied to the amount of noise I have been exposed to on a given day
due to the amplification of my hearing aid.

I have asked the same question from my doctor.  His reply is: we are
unable to use our head to 'order' the anxiety in our system to stop!
That is to say, anxiety could come to us _un=invited_.  We have little
control over it.  When I had my tinnitus onset about 6 months ago, I
had to lean on ATIVAN to have it controlled.  ATIVAN produced a very
quiet world for me but turned me into a drug addict.  So the doctor
helped me get out of ATivan but began a slow herb treatment for me.
These are brain-nourishing herbs.  You have to take them for a few
months in order to strengthen the 'anti-anxiety cells' in your brain.
I am trying to tell you in layman's terms what my doctor told me.
Another doctor suggested PROSAC instead of herb capsules.  I suppose
both are good and could serve the same purpose.  But i think you are
better off taking non-addictive drugs or drugs that produce little
side-effects.  Many multinational drug companies are making herb
capsules of excellent quality.  You may want to look into that.  Above
all, avoid anything, mental or physical, that is too strenuous.
Finally and the most important of all, GET GOOD SLEEP!
