Hi,
I've been seeing an ENT for years, along with tinnitus I have
narrowing of the ear canals..so bad that I think the ENT can only see
a small piece of an ear drum. I called his office and asked if they
could photograph the middle ear and tissue growth so I can see it and
have a record of it. The reply I got said it isn't possible. I said I
have seen middle ear photographs on the internet and they said the
person was probably sedated. Does any one know who or where to ask if
the middle ear canal can be photographed with a very narrow opening.
Thanks in advance.

There is no middle ear canal......perhaps that is part of the confusion.

There is an outer ear canal......that runs from the ear itself up to the
eardrum located at the inner end.......then an open space behind the ear
drum.......only partially visible through the translucent eardrum via the ear
canal.

I think what you are asking for is a video otoscope exam --- a tiny fiber
optics light otoscope shows the ear canal and the eardrum on a tv
screen........and it is easy to catch an image and make a photo of the ear
canal and the eardrum.......is that what you want?

That is very easy to do. Please find and ask an audiologist!

Hi,
Thank your Marsha and Dr. Nagler for responding. The video otoscope
is exactly what I'm trying to find, I left a meesage with my ENT's
nurse to find out if they have one at their office. Another ENT
described my left ear canal as having the diameter of a pinhead and I
hope that doesn't prohibit the the use of the scope. I can hear better
on my left ear than my right so that side may be even harder to scope.
I have experienced extremely heavy duty tinnitus off and on for years.
I have had had 3 distinct sperate layers of ringing in my right ear at
times. Vey loud. I have battled this stuff for years and I will keep
battling it because I'm winning. The underlying cause, or effect from
the cause, is inflammation. It may be an auto-immune condition like
lupus, which  I hope to get tested for, or some other condition. But
the main thing I have found is the more I reduce the inflammation the
overall better reduction in my tinnitus. I'm reducing it with
anti-oxidant pills, natural anti-inflammatorys like omega 3 fish oil
and also I'm directly attacking the in flammation in and on my outer
ears with Solaraze, diclofenac sodium, gel. One of the biggest
discoveries I have made in my personal saga is that my lips and the
area around my lips are feeding the inflammation effects in my ear
canals which is causing or adding to my tinnitus. I have some very
graphic pictures of the inflammation of my lips and around my mouth.
It's also worth noting that none of my inflammation was discernable by
looking it at with the eye, at least not my eye.
I'm still working to crack my case and when I get all the medically
approved results/diagnoses, I'll pass them on. If I were in the
business of trying to find out the cause of a persons tinnitus..the
first thing I would want to find out is if their ear canals have
inflammed tissue. Solaraze, being a NSAID, non-steroid
anti-inflammatory drug would react to inflammed tissue within a week
or so and would give an indication. However, to the best of knowledge,
Solaraze is not prescribed for the ear canal..it's possible it may be
prescribed for the outer ear in cases of sun damaged skin. Anyways,
I'm going to keep on plugging and will let you all know the latest as
it develops.
Cheers,
Rich
