After reading every post on here for the past two weeks, I have come to the
conclusion no one has any idea of cause or fix for Tinitus.
I talked to my pharmiscist and she looked at me like I had two heads and
when I asked her if there was anything new onn the market to help with
Tinitus.
I am on my second week with ringing in both ears, left one is most
predominant.
Just venting.
thank you for your time and input.

Ideas about the causes are "known" (different causes), but no real notion of
how to fix (i.e., make it go away) tinnitus. BUT, there are good ideas
regarding dealing with tinnitus. So hang around and folks will begin to
share them once they get a sense of how your tinnitus is affecting your
life.
Good luck,

I think the problem has to do with knowing what the cause is. In my own case,
antibiotics helped, because my tinnitus is infectious in origin (CNS tick borne
diseases). In some cases, it may be due to injury, or thyroid dysfunction, or
salicylate sensitivity, or tube congestion.
Sometimes one never finds out what caused it, and we just have to learn to live
knowing it's there, but not focusing on it, which gets easier with time.

Yes, we could have told you that right away :)

If it's any comfort, you are not alone. There are plenty of people who
suffer from T and who understand what it's like.

Yes--that's the size of it. I've spent hours reading doctors' and
organizations' Web sites, and there are no answers, other than to see
an ENT, who is likely to run tests and then tell you there is nothing
that can be done.
I'm concerned because I know it is linked to my menstrual changes, and
no one is even discussing this, and doctors poo-poo it when I tell
them I'm sure because of repeated correlations that are now
longitudinal patterns. I saw a symptom list for menopause dated 1997,
and tinnitus was on the list! Yet not one doctor has asked about my
menstrual cycle, and when I mention it, they act like it's not
important.
I am on my 2nd week as well, and I do find that wearing ear plugs when
I'm not doing something that requires sound, it does seem to bring
some relief until I get tired.
Thanks for letting me vent, too! I appreciate the professionals who
post here at least trying to point people in the right direction.

Persons whose tinnitus is increased at menses do well with diuretics.

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow and have been using background
music or HGTV when I need to concentrate. Thanks all for the
information.

I've been using the in-ear white-noise devices for about three years.
It's the TRT system that has been much ridiculed here. I suffer from
tinnitus and hyperacusis caused by brain injury. The devices have
helped significantly with tinnitus, but not with the hyperacusis.
The method is described here:
http://www.tinnitus.org/home/frame/THC1.htm
I've never heard of a medication developed specifically for tinnitus.
I know a lot of them can *cause* it however. Good luck.

(1)Have you seen a doctor yet?
(2)Have you asked your GP to refer you to someone that knows what to
do?
(3)Have you been to the ENT department?
(4)Have you been to the department of neurology?
I could tell you that if someone in China, Europe or Japan, were in
your case, which is a new T, he or she would be immediately sent for a
combination of hyperbaric oxygen theurapy and intravenous injection.
I have known personally of 3 new T suffers who were _cured_ this way!
Most T suffers do get at least a reduction of volume of the ring. I
have found it virtually impossible to believe that the new T suffers
living in the most medically advanced country in the whole world or
the US of A, are told by doctors that there is no cure for their T and
that the only way to cope with the T is 'live with it'. These suffers
are not even encouraged to find out the cause of their T.
Go for a doc right now and stop wasting too much time in this ng.
