My doctor told me that this is a good and cheap anti-depressant drug
that could help with my tinnitus.  But tinnitus is listed as one of
the side-effects of doxepin.

Any views?

I used it in the past. It is quite effective. It might leave you slightly
spaced out in the daytime. Dosages are from 25-75 mg Doxepin Hydrochloride,
similar to elavil but with an oxygen bond.

I suppose each person has a different reaction to the same drug.
AFter I had used it for some days, I discovered that the silent hours
between 3 to 6 am were gone and replaced by noise in my left ear.  I
stopped it last night and the silent hours came back.  It could have
been 'imaginary' but then again anything that carries tha word
'hydrochloride' keeps me on toes.

Our stomachs are full of hydrochloric acid, so I don't think that taking the
hydrochloride salt of a drug will make any difference.

Tinnitus is listed as a possible side effect of  a lot of medicines.
Check to see if the effect is greater than that of placebo. That is
more important. Xanax also carrys a warning of tinnitus ,yet it is one
of the most effective drugs against tinnitus.
