I'm only 32 and came here today because I have an ocean/waves sound in
my left ear. I have a lot of the other symptoms that can cause this
like the teeth grinding at nite, jaw popping, stiff neck. The "ocean"
goes away when I relax in a sitting position but any small movement of
the head/neck can bring it back. I also think it could be water but I
tried putting alcohol in my ear and that did not help. I was just
wanting to know everyones average age. I'm scared of loosing my
hearing at an early age. BTW it is my left ear.

Anne:
I don't know about the ages of most of the people in this group, but I,
myself, am 66 but I've had T for quite a number of years, possibly caused by
medications. It started so gradually that I don't recall when it really
became a nuisance. However, you could possibly have fluid inside the ear
causing the problem. Worthy of seeing your MD.

I am 45 and have been aware of my tinnitus for 33 years.
Tinnitus is a symptom of something that it may or may not be possible
to isolate. It isn't the cause of hearing loss although it is known
to accompany hearing loss.

45, T caused by a rock concert. I also know of a 10 year old who has T,
caused by heavy practising on his drums, so I have to consider myself lucky
I guess.

I had TMJ briefly in my early 30s and starting hearing an ocean wave
sound the night before my period in my late 30s. In fact, I started
getting PMS at about age 33 and then it was heaviest at age 35 and
subsided. My ob/gyn said my symptoms were common. I read that 35 is
the average peak PMS age for women and that 38 is the average age when
most women show the earliest signs of pre-menopause, which may include
sounds. I haven't seen much about hearing experts exploring female
hormonal changes and hearing. The rushing sounds were accompanied by
an inability to get to sleep for me.
