I've been getting intermittent tinnitus for about 3 months. It takes the
form of a hissing, like a gas escape, usually in the left, but sometimes in
both ears. If it WAS escaping gas I would describe it as appearing to
originate from behind me somewhere.
I think I've noticed a pattern recently. Like most adults I probably don't
get enough sleep; I have to wake up at about 6:15 to go to work, and hate
going to bed early. If I'm tired next day I am less likely to have tinnitus.
For example, last week was busy at home, and I never got to bed before
midnight - I didn't have any tinnitus whatsoever. On Saturday I slept in
till about 9 or so and had tinnitus all day. Sunday I needed to get up
early-ish, and had no tinnitus. Last night, Sunday, I had an early night in
readiness for coming back to work this morning and, lo and behold, gas
escaping all over the place today.
Can anybody else recognise amount of sleep as a causative factor? Meanwhile
for me, a nice late night tonight.

May I just add, that if I start the day with it I know it's going to be
there all day.

Have you tried sleeping in a different bed? Do you have Obstructive Sleep
Apnea? Do you snore? Are you well rested after a longer sleep or after a
shorter sleep period. What kind of pillow. Ventilation. The list goes
on.....

Haven't slept in a different bed since the tinnitus started.
I don't have OSA and I don't snore.
I never feel particularly well rested after any amount of sleep - I'm one of
those people who's never found it easy to get up!
Pillows are new since it started up, expensive and very good quality foam
filled.
Bedroom entirely well ventilated.
Last night I went to bed after midnight, felt tired when the alarm clock
rang - no tinnitus today. I'm convinced.

something to do with your sinuses filling up with fluid each night, I
have thickened sinus lining and Dr, Grossan has already informed us
that the filling of the sinuses is what makes you roll over while in a
deep sleep. I wonder if you get little sleep ,that the sinuses don't
flii as much and your T is lower. I would appreciate Dr.Grossans Input
on this .Particulatly because plain old sudafed seems to help my T.

I have the same type of tinnitus. It is often better after a poor
sleep - and I'm tired all day with low tinnitus. It has nothing to do
with beds or pillows. It is related to something that happens in the
brain - a complete mystery.
