I've had several e-mails over the past few days from new members asking about
habituation, how long does it take, how do we cope?
I'll tell you what I have told them. Habituating tinnitus can be a very
lengthy process. I took me several years. There was no internet support group
or any other support group for that matter. I think if there were my
acclimation time would have been drastically reduced.
I was afraid, stressed and very depressed over losing my silence. It was
almost surreal. I felt anything god could have burdened me with would have been
easier. This cross was just too heavy.
I struggled with it, fought it and at times just tried to pretend it wasn't
there always making things worse.
It took me a couple of years to accept that it was part of me - no longer my
enemy but just another one of lifes setbacks. The more willingly I accepted it,
the less stress it caused and until became normal again.
After all physical reasons for your acquiring tinnitus have been eliminated
try this: accept, have patience, say prayers, let time pass and get
encourgement. (apple)
I guarantee once you've habituated tinnitus nothing will ever get you down
again.:)
That new tinnitus busting drug may be right around the corner, but for now the
cure is in the acceptance.
