Hello All,

I'm new to this newsgroup and to tinnitus.

I wish to know where I'm standing now, and if there's anything that can be
done to terminate the tinnitus or relieve it. your help is appreciated.

2 months ago I took antibiotic (Azithromycin) for 10 days, 1g each day
except one day when I took 1.5g - I then felt my head buzzing for a couple
of hours.
I stopped taking the drug for 1 day and then resumed with 0.5g a day.
After 2 days tinnitus returned and did not stop, and this time I felt my ear
aches.
I went to the doctor and he said that nothing can be done...
I took alpha lipoic acid which alleviated the pain a little.
(I'm sorry that I did not take cortizon)

Today, I have trouble sleeping and I hear some kind of a tone when I'm in a
quiet place or when I sleep.  in my right side of the head I hear a hissing
sound (probably the nerve have been effected), and on the left side
ringining in the ear (the perforation site).

My question is:  will it go away by itself ? or is it permanent ? (what's
the sign of permanent tinnitus ?) some doctors say it takes 3 months to
determine , some say 6 months and some just don't say... so what's the truth
about it ?

Not only that I can't sleep, I do not function my everyday life, and I might
consider taking anti-depressent drugs if I can't find relief.

Has anybody tried the Alpha Tinnitus formula at
http://www.alphatinnitusformulas.com/      ?

They claim that they cured many tinnitus patients with high doses of vitamin
A injection (a study from 1953). Any feedback about it ?Is vitamin A helpful
in large doses ...
(Vitamin B12 injections helped me a lot during the process)

Thanks,

John.

Why were you taking the antibiotic?

What tests did your doctor do before concluding this?

Was cortisone prescribed/recommended by your doctor?

You had a middle ear infection? Or an injury?

No one knows. The longer it lasts the more likely it is to continue, but the
better you will adapt to it. Most people come not to notice tinnitus that was
originally devastating.

Try avoiding very quiet places where your tinnitus stands out. (Of course, you
should also avoid extremely noisy places where hearing might be damaged!)

It is nonsense.

He only looked at the ear with his instrument. (family doctor)

Later when I went to E.N.T - he said that if I came earlier then he would
have given me cortizon.
Did I make a mistake not going to ENT in in the first place and having taken
Cortizon ?

The antibiotics have made pressure on the middle ear until it bursted to the
inner ear... that's what I've been told...

Today I feel ringing in the ear that the antibiotics perforated... I hope it
will go away...

The doctors told me not to take ANYTHING any vitamins nor medication... just
sit and wait...

I eat a lot of liver because it contains many vitamins, and it seems to be
good to me..

Should I be taking dietary vitamins as well ?

Thanks,

John.

Hi John,

Sorry to hear you've acquired tinnitus. Maybe it will go awaysoon, I hope so.

But if your every day life has been turned upside down and your not sleeping
or functioning well maybe an antidepressant is in order.

I got help w/elavil 25mg, others on zoloft, pazxil, etc. Be prepared to take
them for at least 3 months to have any effect on your tinnitus.

best,
jean

The truth is the sooner you get it treated the better off you are.
Try the most optimistic doctor.

Then keep injecting B12 and stick to the doctor that prescribed this
solution to you.  There is no fast cure but there might be a right
cure.
