I suffer from HPPD, which means I have visual distortions as a result
of doing too much LSD in high school and having the wrong chemistry
for it (I'm 22 now). I mention this, because I first became aware of
a "computer monitor sound" in my ears 2 years ago, when my HPPD hit
its worst. I had read that a lot of people with HPPD get tinnitus, I
started to worry about it and BOOM, a week later I heard noises. So
what I'm saying is, I've always been pretty sure there was a
psychosomatic component to my T.
2 years ago I started taking Klonopin (a valium type drug, for those
who don't know) to treat my anxiety and visuals, and I largely stopped
worrying about my T, it just didn't enter the realm of concious
thought. 2 weeks ago I decided to cut my klonopin back, and I started
to get anxious. About a week ago, my T started to bother me again.
I've been a pretty heavy dope smoker for a few years, so I looked up T
and marijauna, and found some anecdotal evidence that pot makes T
worse, at least while you're under the influence of it, so as of today
I've given that up for a while as well, how long probably depends on
how long it takes for me to get my head in order so I can "enjoy"
smoking again.
Anyway, while I accept the fact that smoking dope these past couple
years may have made my T worse, it seems much more likely to me that
it's more a result of cutting back the Klonopin, putting me in an
anxious state where I do more "self-monitoring" and am more apt to
notice these things. Also, my ears really hurt right now as do my
sinuses, so that may have something to do with it, I don't know. But
what I'm trying to decide is if I should keep cutting back the
klonopin, and see if my T gets better again by itself, or if I should
just say f.ck it, plan on being on klonopin forever, and go from
there.

Withdrawal from klonopin often increases tinnitus. The lower the dose
you can take to manage the anxiety, the better.
Stop smoking dope :-)

I would advise on cutting back the smoking, in order for you to enjoy those
times where you do smoke even more. For the Klonopin, perhaps you could plan
some tapering off it, and going back on it in cycles with your Doc. Ask your
doctor about a liquid titration kit for the Clonazepam. It might allow you
to cut down comfortably.

Is there a good chemistry for taking too much LSD?
Changing your dosage of Klonopin should be done with the help of a doctor,
as I've read a few times how unpleasant it can be if not done properly.
And if it was working, why the need to stop?
You may have had the tinnitus for some time but were just not aware of it
until you read about it as a side effect and listened for it. How does the
Marijuana affect the visuals from the HPPD. Out of curiosity, are the
visuals the only LSD-like effect in HPPD, or is it somewhat like a
permanent acid trip? Are you able to work?
Considering your track record with self-medicating, my only advice would
be to strive for as natural a brain chemistry as possible, aside from
medications that control the symptoms of HPPD

marijuana makes the hppd visual stuff worse for about 20 minutes, but
that's it. when it first set in, there was a heavy psychological
dissassociative aspect to it, but not anymore, it's just the visuals,
and yes, I work/go to scool / do all those normal things.
And I agree with keeping as natural a brain chemistry as possable,
although I question whether Klonopin is any more "natural" and
beneficial in the long run than smoking pot, or any other drug......

HPPD huh? That's a new one to me :o) I only did acid three or four times
(twenty or more years ago). You state that you started worrying about T and
then "boom, you got it"? If that's not psychosomatic I don't know what is.
Why do you feel the need to continue the recreational use of drugs? If you
continue this mindset you will end up having problems taking medication
correctly. Ex: Xanax has been found to be very effective in lowering T. If a
dr gives you a script, you'll end up popping two, then three, then
four...etc. because you are in an "abuse mode". Then you'll go through
withdrawal and your T will be louder than you ever thought possible.
The klonopin helps with anxiety only, but Xanax not only does the same but
for some unknown reason it helps with the intensity of the T noise as well.
As far as the pot, geese... I used to be a regular user (also 20+ years ago)
and can only imagine being high while this tinnitus is in the background. As
you are aware, pot enhances everything. I would go out of my mind if my T
was enhanced! Stop putting so much into getting yourself stoned and go to an
ENT experienced with T and ask about alprazolam (Xanax) therapy.
