Hi:

My favorite tinnitus is a pure-sine-wave tone that is a high-frequency
as it can get while still being audible. Something like the sine-wave
tone emitted by CRT monitors -- you can barely hear it but you can
definitely feel it in your ears.

In addition, my favorite tinnitus is unilateral and only affects the
left ear. The tinnitus starts suddenly in a flash and is accompanied
by sudden and total deafness in the left ear along with sudden sharp
pain in the left cochlea.

The tinnitus, deafness, and pain occur exactly together. These
symptoms are not permanent. Each episode lasts only 15 seconds.

The cause of these symptoms is a mystery.

Thanks

Unilateral tinnitus is a red flag for acoustic neuromas.  You should see
an otolaryngologist about it.

.... in which case it's pretty much a stretch to say you can tell that it's
a sine-wave 1!

I get 'purish tone' mid-freq T intermittantly in either or both ears, around
2KHz.

Also low-freq  T (around 56Hz) in either of both ears, as well as a
heavily-modulated version (deisel gen-set in the distance).

And then my 'favourite'. Not. Pretty much constant cicadas in R ear (=
modulated tone, or multiple tones all above 8KHz)
