My tinnitus is now about 10-15% of what it used to be and it comes intermittently---or I hear it intermittently. What in particular tells the current tinnitus and what it used to be, aside from the volume of sound, is that my tinnitus seems to be felt mainly on the ear drum instead of the head. I recall what my doctor told me years ago: this phenomenon shows the nerve is recovering.
