Hi All

My name is Richard and I live in Folsom, California

I developed Tinnitus AUG 21st, 2007.

I have a very high pitch squeal, that is very disturbing, also
accompanied with this, my face, hands and legs go numb every day.
Ativan is the only thing that allows me to function.

My Doctor at Kaiser says I'm anxious, and that is the reason I am
going numb.

I do not believe this, I believe that the signal I am listening to is
attacking my nervous system and causing it shutdown everyday.

I am numb after sleeping and when I wake up, can one be anxious while
asleep?

Do I have nervous system damage from some traumatic event, I have had
a chiro adjustment, with no luck.

My MD wants me to see a psych, how can this possibly help with the
nervous system, and numbness?

Anyboby have any ideas.

Thanks

Richard

Check your blood glucose, it is nice to be able to eliminate a diabetes
issue when you have neurological symptoms in the extremeties.

Or diabetic, for a guess you need to eliminate.

Your tinnitus is just another sound, stop trying not to listen to it. i have
written about this previously ... go google my occasional posts in this
forum.

Note: I am no a medical professional, and I am just guessing based on
avaiable information.

Can ativan be used to control diabetes?

Not likely,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorazepam

says:

Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine tranquilizer with short to medium duration of
action. It has all five intrinsic benzodiazepine effects: anxiolytic,
sedative/hypnotic, amnesic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant, to different
extents.[1] It is a unique benzodiazepine insofar as it has also found use
as an adjunct antiemetic in chemotherapy. Since its introduction in 1971,
lorazepam's principal use has been in treating the symptom of anxiety.
Compared to other benzodiazepines, lorazepam has relatively high addictive
potential.

It would appear that the muscle relaxation is what the prescription is
indicated from, but the warning about addictive seems should be noted, seems
like treating a symptom rather than treating a cause to me, but even that is
just speculating. IF the problem is muscular tension, then the question
becomes one of the cause of it. Again: I am NOT a medical professional.

Try ginko biloba for 2 weeks and see if it helps you.  Make sure you
do take this herb properly as directed by the manufacturer.  Don't
cheat yourself by taking less than is prescribed.

I used to be on Ativan. If I were you, I would take at least 6 months
to unwind from it.  It is highly addictive.  Did you doctor put you
into it?
Does he know how to get you out?

All chiropractors are not the same. I have visited quite a few over
the past 15 years. Some massage, some don't. Some use an instrument of
some kind, some don't. Some are hands on, some are not. Even doctors
don't touch much these days.

How did your chiro treat you?

The best chiros I have been to gave me a thorough massage before the
chiropractic adjustment. My favourite one now tells me where I have a
tense muscle before I even knew I had one.

I ask him what to do about and he gives me an exercise to do.
Sometimes I can't do what he suggests (because of physical
limitations) so he finds another way round it.

If your body goes numb there must definitely be a muscular problem
somewhere. See if you can find some physical therapist who will give
you better information. If your chiro did not give you a massage, find
one that does. Perhaps you can ask how his treatment works before you
shell out big bucks.

Have a read of this webpage while you are waiting.

Totally agree with all that! Find a chiro that spends more than 30
seconds with you. It makes a big difference. Chiros in the USA have a
licence to become quacks, real quick. In Canada they are more
controlled, I believe.
