Since 1995 I have Tinnitus.
I hear a high hiss of about 14 KHz.
Under normal conditions it is about 70 dB loud.
Since some time I tried hearing aid.
I got the oportunity to try several models from Simens.
For some of the models with special settings
I will have the effect that my tinitus goes down from 70 dB to below 30 dB.
For that to happen I think that the amplification for frequencies near my
tinitus
have to be so high that my ear does get enough imput signal to prevent
my hearing system to maximize its amplification and with it the tinitus.
So when the hearingaid is set correct my ear relaxes and the tinitus gets
down.
I would recomend any body who has tinitus together with hearing loss to try
this.
It does not remove the tinitus but changes it from obvious to 'nearly gone'
I have been testing this now for several models and several settings.
I never expected it and am overwelmed with the wealth of silence.
Every morning I get up with the roaring sound in my ears but I know that
soon
after I put in my hearingaid this will go down. I tried to sleep with the
hearing aid.
This did not help. After sleeping or even a short nap my ears are loud.
Then after some time with my hearing aid it is back to silence.

I believe in sound masking or sound treatment.  And I think the man-
made sound, correctly adjusted to its appropriate frequency, is very
therapeutic to the damaged auditory nerve cells and help the cell
recover.

Where I am does not sell high tech hearing aid, nor do the doctors are
well informed enough.  But the natural sound from ciccadas has helped
me overcome the discomfort associated with napping.
