I had sudden onset of high pitched ringing.  First it was a pressure,
and I could feel some kind of "fluid" in the ears.  Audiologist said
it was not middle ear.  Then it was slight ringing, at night, eg.,
after listening to music or going to a concert.  Now it is almost
constant, seems worst on waking up.  In one ear only it seems.

I've been wearing custom fit earplugs (-15dB, started about when I got
the pressure thing happening).  Now about two months later I've got
ringing.  I go to a lot of club shows, but mostly I stay outside or
far away from the music.  My hobby is audio recording, so I listen at
low level once I get home.

So, my questions are, will this get worse?  Is going to shows (with
earplugs, -15dB or -25dB) going to cause more harm?  Will a rest
help?  Also, does anyone out there smoke weed?  I noticed this *seems*
to make it worse, and I don't know if I'm doing permanent damage.  I'm
really bummed because, well, going to shows and taping is a big hobby
for me (two or three nights a week usually!).

If your condition is cochlear hydrops - increased fluid pressure in the
inner ear, that is a treatable condition - doctors generally give a diuretic
to lower that pressure.

If I knew how thc might disinhibit the coclear nuclei, I could at
least theorize.  I quit because it was making my T worse.  Even 6
months later there is no way I'd take the risk.  I have only one
brain.  If I were you I'd limit myself to clubs with better natural
acoustics i.e. less need to blast it.

It is mostly perception. Weed can make your perception seem more
precise.

See a good ear doctor specialist and relax. Nobody knows how permanent
it will be. Don't feed it with attention and increases anxiety.

Easier said than done sometimes.

If you can have it properly treated, it will not get worse.  If you
let nature take its own course, you are then taking a chance.

Why not visit Murray Grossan's clinic and get it over with?  As
someone who once went through the tormenting experience of tinnitus,I
can tell you that most doctors don't know how to treat tinnitus.
Since we have one here who knows, you might as well go to see him
rather than looking for answers to your ill.

That said, if you want to continue to loiter around for advices, my
suggestion is that you take a tablet of ginko biloba in order to keep
your tinnitus fresh.  Once a tinnitus becomes old, it gets to be
harder to treat.

What is "Murray Grossan's" clinic?  I got a pointer to some book for
$89.  Can someone attest to what is there and why I should bother.  Is
this some kind of cognitive-behavioural therapy?  You recommended it,
so please speak up.

Thanks,
 Richard

It could be simple wax build up on your eardrum. Nobody knows but you
should get it checked to eliminate the medical possibilities sooner
than later.

I recommend you to talk to Murray not because of whatever specific
therapy or treatment but because he is one of the few doctors who
knows how to treat tinnitus.  When I first had tinnitus, I went to see
about 15 doctors in Asia and most of them were unable to tell their
arses from their elbows.  Then I thought perhaps the high tech doctors
in scientific North America would have been better but unfortunately
they all suffered in my view from the same level of
unprofessionalism.  Thus instead of wasting your time and resources
looking for someone who can treat you, you might as well spend whatver
financial resources you have and visit someone who at least knows what
he is doing.
