I developed tinnitus suddenly last December during a bout with a head cold.
The tinnitus was quit severe for a couple of days during the head cold and
then subsided to a manageable level where I can always hear it being louder
at times such as when I get up in the morning. I've been to an ENT and
after a 5 minute exam I was referred to an Audiologist. I have since learned
to habituate to it but I'm also interested in the Neuromonics treatment that
is now available in the US. I have been unable to find any independent
accounts of satisfaction with this device. I could ask the center in Dallas
that has this device available, but I'm not certain that the advice would be
totally unbiased and the Neuromonics treatment is fairly expensive at $3800
(in Dallas) plus about $400 in various acoustic tests. The Neuromonics
device is FDA approved but I can't find any independent scientific proof
that it works. The other dilemma is that sometimes the tinnitus is not as
bothersome later in the day when I'm busy and I would hate to waste $4200
for marginal relief. On the other hand, if I can expect a fairly high degree
of improvement, I would be willing to spend to coin. My question to the
group is, do you know anyone that has any experience with the Neuromonics
treatment? I would guess that a few hundred people or perhaps much more are
in the program in the US and I would think that many more have enrolled in
Australia. Thank-you very much for any replies and have a good day.

difference.
