I have had tinnitus as long as I can remember and thats along time. I'm
52. The ringing is on a much higher scale the past few months that I
went to see a ear, nose and throat Doctor. I have severe hearing loss
of high pitch tones in both ears. I think thats due to working in a
foundry when I was younger. He has suggested hearing aids for both ears
to help with the T. I dont understand how hearing aids can help. For
instants, while watching TV I have the volume up so loud that when my
wife is on the phone I have to lower it so she can have a conversation.
Even with the TV on high volume I still hear the ringing. So if all the
sounds are amplified with hearing aids how will that help with the
ringing? The only time I get relief from the ringing is from music. I
think the music having so many different pitch and tones that it
matches the tone of my ringing......Thx...Don

I think the idea is, that your brain will not concentrate so much on the
specific ringing of the T, if _all_ other sounds are amplified so much,
that you will hear more than just the loud TV or music. It's a bit like
"masking devices" which produce a constant sound which is different to
the sound of the T, so you will not concentrate on the T sound too much.

I have excellent results when T patients get hearing aids, esp when they are
fitted to the hearing loss range. Remmmber you can get a 30 day trial and
retrun them if not satisfied.
