3 days ago I noticed that when my tv is on, I get a ringing in my ears.
I have had this tv for years, and just really noticed the ringing
several days ago. Even when I turn it off, I still have a little
ringing. If I keep it off for hours, the ringing fades but is still
sort of there. But once I turn the tv back on, there it is. I think the
ringing is only in my right ear, but I don't know for certain if it's
just that ear or if it's both. There is another of the same exact tv in
the house and I hear the ringing with that tv too.
Can anyone help?

Some TV sets will put out a 15750 Hz flyback frequency in time with
the horizontal scanning frequency. Some people are quite sensitive to
this and some sets produce it worse than others. Perhaps the sound of
this frequency makes you anxious about your tinnitus (sounds very
similar to me) and draws your attention to your tinnitus problem. Now,
despite removing the stimulus your attention is on the ringing and it
takes a while to forget about it.

Does this happen with other TV sets also?

We have a couple lcd tv sets (non-tube), and after very briefly testing
them, I don't hear the ringing on those tvs. Just the tvs with the
"tube", I hear this ringing. Prior to 3 days ago, I NEVER heard any
ringing with either the tv on or off.
A little over a week ago, I got my satellite box that sits on top of my
tv upgraded to a newer version, but I disconnect that and turn the tv
on and I still hear this high-pitch noise. I have never heard this
noise up until 3 days ago, however.
Could it possibly be a buildup of earwax or an ear virus? In any case,
I'm going to an ear doctor tomorrow. Just wanted to come on here and
see if anyone had a similar experience.

Many people hear this on older TV sets. The newer ones don't tend to
make the noise as much, if at all.

Just got back from the ear doctor. Everything seems normal. My hearing
is good/normal at all frequencies. They told me to call if the
ringing/static sound continues for the next few weeks. I don't know
what this could be...

Now you have the physical evidence and need to combat the
psychological aspects yourself. You need to walk away from it and get
on with your life.

If it is there, listen to it and try to make it louder, enjoy it.
Sounds silly but many claim they have beat it this way. I can beat
mine like that also, when it ever comes again. I try to make mine
worse by listening and forcing myself to worry about it. Next thing I
know it is later and I can hardly remember it being there.

I'm pretty convinced that my mild T is aggravated by high pitched
noises.  Currently the worst offender is strangely a LCD monitor.  I
even took off the back hoping to isolate the whining area to no avail.
It vanished when I did that.  I'll have to just sell it and get
another.  Also the amp that powers my computer speakers that have very
good high frequency performance is noisy and now that is off almost
all the time.  When I was young I could often hear high frequency
alarm sensors in stores.  TV's would be very irritating for the same
reason the OP mentions above.  I wonder if some T sufferers had superb
high frequency hearing when they were young?  I also grind my teeth
and have a stiff neck which I'm working on daily.  Sitting for hours
in front of a computer with the neck in the same position probably
doesn't help flexibility.  I was thinking of getting a huge monitor
(24 - 30") so I had to use more horizontal neck movement.

This post is most interesting to me....I have noticed since I was a very
small child ( as far back as I can remember) TV sets ring in my ears. I could
be in another room and tell when the TV was turned on and even sometimes
outside the house and still hear it come on or go off. Is this normal?? I
have often wondered about this but never really gave it much thought, I just
thought I was weird. My family even thought I was just poking fun, but when I
would go into another room or outside and tell them when they turned on the
TV and back off again they were amazed. I'm glad to know I'm not the only
person that has wondered about this over the years. If someone can enlighten
me on this subject and maybe explain what's happening I would certainly
appreciate any insight anyone has about this. Thanks in advance to anyone
that can shed light on this mystery for me
