Tooth Extraction...

I had the lower molar closest to my bad ear extracted last Wednesday.  The
tooth hurts and makes the ear hurt -- or the ear hurts and makes the tooth
hurt.  I'm not sure which is which.  I took Aleve this morning for the
tooth pain, and now it's just the ear that hurts.  Anybody have any clues
as to how long this will go on?

I lost a close friend on Sunday.  Grief is probably making everything hurt
more.  Does this make sense?  Just venting, griping, complaining, and
unable to get up and make myself go back to noraml life again.  I'm a
mess.

The ear hurts because during the tooth extraction an extreme muscle
tension was set up.
My tinnitus started after a tooth extraction. But it was years before
I understood the connection.

My personal method is to clasp my hands behind my back, pull my
shoulders down, while stretching the top of the head (not the chin) to
the ceiling. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
Try and train yourself to sleep flat on your back - sleeping on your
side keeps the neck muscle in a cramped position.

Try the appropriate neck exercises for you at:

There are quite a lot there, probably too many. Just pick the ones
where you can feel the particular muscle being stretched.
Each stretch should be held for at least 30 seconds, and repeated
several times a day, for as long as necessary.

Thanks, Elly.  I'll try that.

I've been trying for years to sleep on my back.  I just can't do it.  But
I guess it's worth another try.

Eva, the pain shouldn't last beyond a few days to a week or so in most
cases. After that, you should contact the dentist.

I've had dental work once that hurt for a few weeks before disappearing,
though.

The depression creates more depression. I'm sure you know that. Give
yourself a kick in the butt and get outside. You have to break the cycle.

Sorry about your loss and your troubles.

Well, it *finally* quit hurting yesterday.  It wasn't a huge pain, but it
was making my ear hurt.  That's always a sensitive thing for me.

It was a week ago today, so I guess that's about right.  Weird, tho, that
it didn't hurt at all the day after it was done.

Yeah, I can't give in to it.  I have to move -- I stayed in bed Monday.  I
pulled the covers over my head and decided I just didn't want to *do* that
day.  Yesterday I had to get up and get out.

Thanks.  Today is the funeral, and I didn't want to open my eyes this
morning.  I have to remember:  put one foot in front of the other, breathe
in, breathe out.  :(

Eva, I don't know anything about the tooth/ear connection, but I'm very
sorry about the pain and the loss of your friend.

Thanks, Susan.  The funeral was yesterday.  Now I have to face the days
ahead without her.  :(
