Hi all,
I wanted to conduct a poll of this newsgroup concerning symptoms, causes,
treatments, and aggitors of tinnitus. It is not for any sort of assignment,
but I think it would be informative.
Here's mine:
Suspected Cause:
I was extremently stressed with life experiences and went camping and had a
nervous breakdown. I was sleep deprived and didn't sleep at all. My T
started that day and never went away. Before this, I had interrmitent
issues with my ears, but only for a few days out of the year.
Length of T:
A little over a year
Sound of T:
High Pitched sound in right ear (16 kHz) 100% of time. Intermittent lower
pitched sound (~8 kHz in right ear) 10% of time.
What works for me, in order of effectiveness:
1. Take a shower.
2. Focus on something else.
3. Believing that it could go away, or there exists some
treatment, even if I never tried it.
4. Masking device at low volume
5. Going outside and getting some fresh air.
6. Chiropractor has good sucess with fixing the left ear, but not
the right.
7. Maybe melatonin or benedryl, but not sure.
What makes it worse:
1. Trying to escape it or believing it will get worse.
2. Having a lifestyle where all I do is work and watch kids all
week. Call it stress.
3. Being in too quiet of a place
4. Palmegranate Juice and Salt

What works for me, in order of effectiveness:
1 See it as something natural, and gradually it bothers less and less.
I used to depend too much on white noise masking.
2 White noise masking in a very quite environment.
3 Take Tranzene (it works for me, I notice marked decline in volume
when taken, and the day after).
What makes it worse
1 Lack of sleep and stress.
2 Coffee.
3 Listen to it.
4 Flu.

I have been trying to apply your first tip about thinking it as natural. I
think it is helping. Thank you for posting this ..
