Do you mean superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome (which
causes dizziness)?  The surgery is not life threatening, but the
diagnosis leading to surgery is very tricky.  I'd get a second or even
third opinion before going forward.

And get it done at a world class hospital.

Thanks Joe

The diagnosis of the dehiscence was confirmed by two ENT's who are very
reputable in the Twin Cities. My ENT who is performing the operation has
never surgically corrected this particular problem before but has preformed
other operations that are similar, skull based, temporal bone repair.

I wouldn't let him do this if I didn't feel the diagnosis was correct, I've
already been diagnosed with several  other conditions that I didn't actually
have. I have all the classics symptoms and signs and I find life overwelming
when my hearing fluxuates and pressure changes make me twitch.

I already lost my right ear to Menieres via labyrintectomy many many years
ago so I am hoping my left ear isn't going to be damaged in the process of
this surgery,,,,,,,,,,,,,leaving me no vestibular defenses.

I'd be concerned if he has never performed it.  Not because he might
mess you up badly somehow, but because it is a difficult repair.   If
you can possibly get a consultation at the Cleveland Clinic or
Massachusetts Eye & Ear, I'd recommend that.

Good luck and best regards,

Joe

What happened to your symptoms when you took a diuretic?
Doxieland3 - 06 Nov 2006 15:38 GMT
I used to take diruetics for my Menieres, had taken them for many years; post-
labyrintectomy I do not take them anymore.
Honestly, they can be helpful but I do not know about their indications for
this issue. So I guess I do not know how diruetics will affect my current
symtoms.........
