It can be helpful and is a "rational" form of therapy after checking for
treatable causes.

Dear Dr. Grossan,

I'm interested in investigating any way to lessen my tinnitus levels.
Do you know of any studies showing the efficiency of using hypnosis as
a treatment plan? Is there any success rate generally agreed upon?

I have also visited your site linked above and read about the Nasal
Irrigator. Should I be purchasing it because it will reduce my
tinnitus, or is this just an advertisement of some sort for an
unrelated product that you might be profiting from? If the latter, I
don't think that you should be advertizing the product on a tinnitus
support group.

Thank you,
Martin

Martin - 10 Sep 2003 23:52 GMT
>when are you going to get a job?

You want me to get another one? Sorry, I work hard enough.

This is a tinnitus support group. I assume that a physician
advertizing a product [as much as I don't agree with that] would only
be advertizing one that helped tinnitus sufferers.

I asked Dr. Grossan a question. You don't live in a free country? Let
me explain it to you. I can ask a question. He does not have to
answer, but I can ask it.

Please get this man a nasal irrigator before he loses it.  It's

Hey Terri:

Don't forget -- Seattle Bruce has invented the only real CURE
for T (not just a treatment).  EERIE WAX has been proven in
test after test and its 200 proof formula is still an all-time party
favorite -- now available in our special Christmas box.

In addition, our guaranteed "Six weeks in  Seattle" T-therapy
program is still an incredible $60,000 -- what price happiness !

As Bruce says at the end our our cable TV infomercial:

"EERIE WAX -- Nothing is BETTER !!!!!!!! "

Diogenes:

I tried it along with my l-o-o-ng list about five years ago.
The hypnotherapist was able to get me into a fairly deep
trance (and quickly).  I found that the T went right along
with me through transpositions, memories of parents and
childhood, ... .  With a LOT of help from him, I learned a
'little' self-hypnosis -- still no long term benefit(s).

I've spoken to some folks who spent a lot more $$$ on this
than I did but have only heard one success story.  This was
from Dr. Nagler who went to a Dr. Herbert Spiegel of Columbia
Univerity in New York.  He'll probably give you more and better
detail if you ask.

Good luck with your treatment,

......................

I think that there may be a role for hypnotherapy in tinnitus, but it
is as yet very ill-defined.  My thinking is that hypnotherapy might
enhance the effectiveness of some of the other treatments, but I do
not see it as a stand-alone tinnitus treatment.  The above is my
impression; however, I know of no good data.

I did find the methods of Dr. Spiegel to be helpful to me.  Please
remember that "trance" and "sleep" are two different things.
Hypnotherapy is a very active process in which there is focused
concentration at the expense of peripheral awareness.  If you snooze,
you lose!

Best of luck.

What you think is immaterial because you are a prevaricator, IMO.

The mechanism of hypnosis for tinnitus is similar to that of biofeedback and
guided meditation.
You reduce the reinforcement component of the symptoms.
If there is no anxiety reinforcement, then it may not be of value.
We also have the hypnotist use guided meditation. Takes you to a time when you
didn't have the T. Sometimes the "gain control" gets adjusted this way.
I am speaking here of hypnois, not psychotherapy - hypnosis. That's a different
thing.

Perhaps pulsing a stream of water from the Grossan-ator to the middle
of the forehead will induce an altered state of consciousness to
enable one to stop focusing on the tinnitus.  The Chinese started this
one a while back, I think.

Murray -- this is another one of my ideas.  The going rate for my
intellectual property for commercial and medical use is $25,000 per
idea used.

Actually we have had brainstorming sessions with persons of various backgrounds
- homemakers, engineers, etc on Tinnitus and some worthwhile ideas have come
up.
For instance, pulsing the cervical posterior muscles can be very helpful for
vertigo caused by certain cervical pathologies.
Your idea of using the pulse of the tubing is a bit late. There is a patent on
just such a device where the circulating pulsation was used to reduce
lylmphedema.
Keep the ideas coming!
Where to send the check? we can's send to a PO Box.
