Dave C. - 20 Jun 2006 01:37 GMT There was a recent post about magnesium supplement helping tinnitus. I have just purchased some, 250mg. If magnesium is of any help, what would be the dosage to do any good?

Being on of the bodies crucial electrolytic elements, it would probably not be to hard to muck up the system.

Dave C. - 22 Jun 2006 03:16 GMT Thanks for the link and I'll be cautious. Before I bought the tablets, I tried a teaspoon of milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) twice a day for a few days which is a different form from the tablets (magnesium oxide). It did not have a noticeable laxative effect, but I'll take one tablet, 250mg a day for a while to see if there is any help.
Something triggers tinnitus and I have not figured out it what it is yet. The trigger seems to be related to sweet desserts, apple pie, pecan pie (very loaded with sugar), maybe ice-cream, or cheap carbs, cake, etc. It lasts for two or three days and diminishes if I eat low carbs and healthy foods. Oatmeal or protein, egg white and ham or cheese omelets) for breakfasts do well. I'll figure it out eventually, I hope.

I once posted an abstract here of a small study showing that a very low calorie, very low carb diet reduced tinnitus very significantly. It sure helped mine quiet down from a loud persistent hiss to a negligible whisper at almost all times, after antibiotics had rid me of the roaring turbine I came here with.

I recently have been following the principles of the South Beach Diet...and carbs that are low on the glycemic list as a guide.
This noon time, I had a chicken salad roll with french fried potatoes. I usually avoid the fries but as a treat, I had them today. As I write this in the evening, the hiss has picked up somewhat, but not too bad.
I am going to concentrate on the low-carb thought.....makes a lot of sense based on my recent experiences. I will report any meaningful observations as time go along.

So, after much searching on the web, i came across a great diet that i follow. It is in a yahoo group under Candidasupport group by Bee. In the 'files' section she has the foods that are allowed and foods to avoid. I have found eating a lot of garlic helps me also.
There are candida tests you can do also. I did it and came out that i have it. I also searched on google using 'candida tinnitus'. All you do is spit in a glass of water first thing in the morning, I would be curious of the results, if others in this group, would do the saliva spit test:

Good Luck and i hope this helps windy

Hi Dave, I have had a constant ringing & hissing for over a year. One month on this diet and i have had a few days with QUIET. I make my mayonnaise with the light flavored olive oil (the regular olive oil was to strong of a flavor). There's a lot of reading in the files in that yahoo group. Good Luck, windy
