"Tinnitus does not discriminate. Whether you are old or young, male or
female, you can be at risk for tinnitus. A recent study conducted in
Sweden aimed to find out the severity of tinnitus in adolescents, ages
8 through 20. (A rise in ear health problems in younger people is
attributed to the increasing popularity of small, portable MP3
players.) Ninety-five young patients, who came to the clinic seeking
help for their tinnitus, had their hearing and tinnitus tested and
completed a battery of questionnaires including the Tinnitus Severity
Questionnaire. Researchers found that in over half of the patients
(54%) the tinnitus developed after the subjects had been exposed to
loud noise music, in most cases." from ATA newsletter

Department of Audiology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Goteborg,
Sweden
Yes, of course an audiology department would focus on music.
But what about the other 46 %?
Would any of their symptoms also have applied to the 54 %?
Any study conducted by any organisation will be biased.
If these teenagers had been surveyed by a dentist then 54 % would have
been found to have TMJ.
If these teenagers had been surveyed by a chiropractor then 54 % would
have been found to have spinal maladjustment.
If these teenagers had been surveyed by an ENT then 54 % would have
been found to have hearing loss.
If these teenagers had been surveyed by a massage therapist then 54 %
would have been found to have muscle tension.
Isn't also possible that these mp3 players increase the muscle
tension? Look at any teenager and see if they are walking around
hunched up, or their head to one side, or any other physical bad body
position.
Muscle tension is still the Common Denominator.

We all have muscle tension until we die, Elly.

That is true Jim. But we do not all have an excess of tension.
I was told for years that I had excessive muscle tension. But I never
made the connection between it and tinnitus.

That statement in itself is biased.
