How loud, the type of sound, medications?
Mine is a ringing which actually sounds like a sine wave with a steely
character. The approximate frequency is 11 khz. The intensity varies
as with most of you, but at its loudest even very loud music does not
mask it. Neither does Very loud white and/or pink noise. As a point of
reference: Driving at 70 or 80 mph with the windows down and music
playing does not mask it.
I'm taking 600 mg Neurontin, .5+ mg Klonipin and .5+ mg Xanax daily.
Sometimes up to 2 mg total, some combination of K and X. If not for
this medication and a doctor willing to prescribe it, I don't know if
I would have survived.
Klonipin seems to suppress the ringing better than Xanax, but K tends
to induce anxiety. A cocktail of some ratio of K and X seems to work
best, though sometimes it seems like nothing is working at all.
The effect of Neurontin is only truly known when I stop taking it, in
which case T gets notably louder.
I generally try to minimize the meds, for obvious reasons; but
sometimes it is impossible.
Alcohol drastically increases it. Caffeine may actually suppress it
slightly. Inactivity of any kind is suicide. Intense mental
engagement helps. I know most of you know all of this.
I do have classic noise induced hearing loss. My ears quit at about 13
khz and I have a 30 db notch at about 6khz. I cannot pinpoint a
concrete a source of noise in my past that would have caused this. It
must be the cumulative effect of random exposure to occasional power
tools, music, etc.
I've had tolerable T levels for 15+ years, but it in Sept 05 it
suddenly got much worse, and is frequently accompanied by hyperacusis.
I know there are many such tales in this group. Thought I would check
in.

Dave

It is fine to use western medication to suppress the symptoms when life
is unbearable but I would go one step further to root it out!
Your described scenario is what the Chinese herb doctors traditional
call a 'weakened' kidney. There is a cheap herb pill you can use. I
use it too. The manufacturer suggests using it 3 times a day but I
have found once is enough for me. Too much of it can cause diahrea in
me. When it comes to using herbs, you have to be a bit patient. I
use a combination of gingko and this type of herb pills. The quantity
of this pill I use is about 1/6 of what is recommended. My body told
me to do it this way. I have found that over time not only the sound
has gone down but my sex ability has gone up too!

Hi "fyfpoon",
Which "herbs" are you taking?
Do you know if excercise would help reduce Tinnitus?
I mean : if your the beats fast at least once each day and if you increase
muscle-mass?
Greetings & thanks for all your advice,
Anders

I have not heard of any of these drugs the only thing that I tried was
ginko, with no success. I thought the only medications the doctor could
perscribe are things that calm you down and reduce anxiety.
Is that what these medications do, or do they do more than that?
