I don't have it initially when I wake up in the morning but it will
"kick in" a minute or so after I wake up. Also, with exercise it will
go away for several hours. I am a very anxious person, aren't I just
hearing my own electrical brain current which I can "hear" when anxious
and tense? This is why I don't "hear" it when I am sleeping or have
post exercise endorphins.
I had acupuncture for it a week ago and it went away for 5 days but
then returned. As she is giving me acupuncture for calmness in
addition to the tinnitus I imagine when the "calmness" wears off after
a few days the deep tentacles of anxiety start up again.

If you had experienced positive impact from acupuncture, you should
stick to it. A visit a week for many weeks to come is recommendable.
The treatment for tinnitus is a long term operation. It is not
something that would go away after one or two treatments.

Lying down and exercise may have something in common - when you lie down
more blood is going to your head. Your face may even swell slightly -
giving that i-just-woke-up look. Once you wake up, you probably sit up,
or get up, changing how the blood flows. Similarly, with exercise, your
body will direct blood to the parts of your body that need it, away from
your head. How's your blood pressure? I'm just guessing, of course,
but maybe you can make something from the basic idea...
Personally, I find my T much more annoying when I'm in a quiet place.
So I keep the radio or TV going just to supply background. When I'm
preoccupied sometimes I don't even notice it.

Want to be calm?
Use the method that works.
Use a mirror.
See your face shoulders forehead
Breathe in count of four
Out count of six.
Do this every hour on the hour for at least one minute.
Note: if you are taking blood pressure medicine, need to monitor as this
will also lower your BP.
