I looked it up.  The name is OSTEOSCLEROSIS
drfrank21@gmail.com - 15 Mar 2006 03:19 GMT

Mine is from www.dictionary.com and the word refers to the hardening of
bones.  I would have thought that i reached to the centre of spelling
authority.

It's "illness", not "ill".

o·to·scle·ro·sis   Audio pronunciation of "otosclerosis" ( P )
Pronunciation Key  (t-skl-rss)
n.

A disease of the ear in which the movement of the stapes within the oval
window becomes impeded by abnormal deposits of spongy bone, leading to a
progressive loss of hearing.
fyfpoon@gmail.com - 16 Mar 2006 03:34 GMT
So are you suggesting that OSTEOSCLEROSIS refers to something different
from "otosclerosis"?

This thread is becoming more and more entertaining (Jim, you were
right). Francis, focus- I'll only go through this once.

Otosclerosis ("oto"= ear , "sclerosis" = thickening or hardening)
is a SPECIFIC condition where the stapes bone in the ear becomes more
fused and doesn't vibrate properly. Thus conductive hearing loss
and sometimes tinnitus (usually  low pitch) results.

Osteosclerosis ("osteo"= bone) is the GENERALIZED condition of a
bone or bones much like osteo arthritis. Thus osteosclerosis of
one's ankle bones  does NOT involve tinnitus. Gingko will not help.

So the original poster meant otosclerosis. They are not the same!

That clear up your confusion??

So the original poster misled all of us.  OSTO either does not exist.

The word 'ill', when used as a noun, refers to unfortunate events or
bad things like "the various ills of life".  Tinnitus is both an ill
and an illness!

Terribly sorry..... Please take out the S.
