Stop being so dogmatic! It works for *some* people. The use of
gingko transformed my 'ring in the centre of the head' into 'ringing on
the drum'. And the doctor that recommended to me is a Cambridge
Graduate. He is no quack!
I mentioned in my original post that I would keep you all posted on my
results. So here's where I am now.
The headaches went away after discontinuing the gingko - but its hard
to say if the gingo caused it of course (since I also have neck
tension). In any case, the tones in my left ear have remained about
the same. The windy-whistle which seems in both ears has gotten slowly
worse, and the thrumming in the right ear (sometimes in the left) seems
about the same. I think the windy-whistle, when it's worse, overrides
the thrumming. So while I thought for a while the thrumming was coming
and going, it might be that it is just sometimes being overshadowed.
The vertigo seems to have subsided at the moment too.
My original post noted that an MRI and MRA showed no problems. I
recently went through another battery of tests, one which tested my
balance system (lots of head positioning tests, and a lot of blowing
cold and warm air into each ear, which induces vertigo). No problems
were found there. I also has some kind of electrode-test, where
electrodes are placed inside each ear at a time, and a small speaker,
and loud clicks are heard. This measures the density of fluid in parts
of your inner ear. This showed up as abnornal (high), so I am starting
on water pills today for 30 days to see if that helps.
I have also read the "pain in the neck" posts, and have been trying
those exercises. it does help my neck pains, and maybe its helping the
veritigo since it hasn't come back in a while, but the tinnitus is
still there, as I mentioned.
I am also looking into checking with a neurologist (so far, I've been
working with the audiologist). And I will have my yearly checkup in a
few weeks, and will see what my cholesterol is doing now (it was high
last check: mid 200s).

If Gingko gives a headache, you may have a sensitive vascular system that is
affected by niacin - in vitamins - , red wine, smelly cheeses.

Interesting - though I didn't change my diet during that time, and I
rarely ever have headaches otherwise. And blood pressure and other
tests have never indicated any issues with my vascular system. This
headache was so unusual and so out of the park, that the only thing I
could connect it to was the gingko. But I may never know, since at
least at the moment, I have no plans to go back on the gingko (and
currently, no more headaches either).
