Er... I'm not sure if this is a commercial post or not, since I'm about to
offer a commercial product - but for free.  It could genuinely help four
other tinnitus sufferers.

It's called the 'detinnitising amplifier'.  I've been using one of these for
some time with great results.  It has already greatly helped one other
person too, who dropped in today to pick one up with his wife.  I've now
decided to market these on the internet.

Currently I have four spare ones. I propose to send these out for free; in
return I'm looking for genuine, truthful feedback on how people get on with
them, so hopefully  I'll muster some 'testimonials'  for my site.

The Detinnitising Amplifier is a bought-in little amplifier with earphones,
but modified to boost only the frequencies otherwise occupied by the
high-pitched type of tinnitus. The effect of wearing it is that things don't
sound louder but just a little clearer and the tinnitus disappears.  This is
similar (I believe) to the benefit brought by a properly set up digital
hearing aid, but at a fiftieth of the price (or free, as in this case).

To benefit most, I think your tinnitus should ideally be 'like mine'. That
is: binaural, high pitched, and probably it did not arise due to exposure to
loud sounds. To qualify you must also live in the UK.

Dang, I wish I qualified.  I don't live in the UK though.  But, my
boyfried does.  Does that count?  :)  My tinnitus is like yours, but I
have found no relief using the white noise that so many find helpful.

Debora,

I've actually had very little response to this offer, which I also posted at
the tinnitus Ezeboard.  Maybe people have completely given up on their T, or
are ultra-suspicious of 'snake-oil' !  So far I've sent only one of the four
out (to a London resident) and had two other inquiries, one was from a US
resident - so couldn't send; the other from a British woman who didn't leave
a postal address.

I'd be delighted to send a unit to your boyfriend in the UK if he can then
pass the unit on to you quickly, since I need the feedback on your
experience one way or the other.  Contact me through the site at
www.detinnitiser.com

;-)

Why the "probably it did not arise due to exposure to loud sounds"  thing?
- I think that´s the reason why I have Tinnitus (too much exposure to loud
sounds - music, eventhough I´m not a musician)

- And mine are also binaural & high pitched.

Would it help me?

Hi Anders,

> Why the "probably it did not arise due to exposure to loud sounds"  thing?

Because it came on during a course of intensive neck massage which I had. I
reasoned it was caused by changes to the blood supply in my neck.

I've never run that risk. I have never listened to the sort of music which
depends for its effect on volume, rather than musicality.

Who knows?  In practice very few people seem to be interested in my device
and I have very little feedback to go on.

Tinnitus does not always arise from the ear. The brain is involved solely in
some cases. You can sever the 8th nerve, the nerve of hearing , and still
get tinnitus or even have it start.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your answer!
- On friday I´m going to the "audiology-department" of the a hospital.  I
hope they´ll give me a high-quality hearing aid / masker-devise" (for free)
- We pay HIGH taxes in Denmark...so a lot of that stuff is free....

10 months ago I had a special music-ear-drop made.  I went to the doctor so
he could clean my ears (ear-wax)
- so that it would fit properly.

Ironically (and very tragic) right after that my Tinnitus got worse and has
been worse ever since!

I´m extremely frustrated and angry.

I go to the doctor because I want to have a special ear-drop made to PROTECT
my ears.
...and then my Tinnitus gets WORSE????!!!

Another strange thing is that last time I had a "classic" cold (pain in my
throat, dripping nose, pain when swallowing etc. etc)
- Last time I had that my Tinnitus almost disappeard 100% while I had it -
which I think was for around 3 days

WHY WHY WHY is that?????????????????????

When did you wear the earplug, and how much?

I intend wear them at the very few concerts I go to every year. (it cuts off
25db) and the pricewas approx. $175 - $200 per ear-drop.

Until now I´ve always used the "very-cheap-yellow-classic-ones", but then
you can only hear the bass-sounds.
They´re perfect during nighttime though...

If they consider an aid will help in your case,  I'd make sure that it is
filtered to amplify _only_ around your tinnitus frequency and the underlying
masking noise is as 'bitty' as possible.  Then you'd have an ideal device
which should really knock your tinnitus for six !

Yes in the UK our taxes are lower but then we (usually) have to pay !   ;)

I sometimes think that doctors are as much in the dark about tinnitus as the
rest of us! For example I paid a (reasonable) £150 to an ENT here who at
least was able to rule out malignant conditions but couldn't do much else.
That's why I gave up on the docs and decided to help myself.

Thanks...I´ll ask for that!
